Carlton Football Club Respect Match-Day Experience
Jack V in Grade 6 was recently nominated to represent RPS at the Carlton Footy Club’s game against Melbourne last weekend. Below is his report on the experience.
I received free tickets for my family and me to attend the Carlton vs. Melbourne game last weekend. I got to hold up the Carlton banner and high-five Tom De Koning when they were running out. It was awesome being so close to the players.
After that, we sat with the Carlton Cheer Squad and enjoyed half-priced hot dogs at halftime. Although it was raining, it was a fun experience. Thank you to Ms. Zealley for the opportunity and the free tickets. It was a great win for the Blues, too!
Book Club - Issue 5
Magazines for Issue 5 of Book Club have been sent home.
Every purchase from the Scholastic Book Club not only gives your child wonderful educational resources at home, but also contributes to the school Library collection which benefits all of the school children.
There are 4 ways to order:
1. By credit card using LOOP, where you complete the book order and pay online – nothing needs to be sent back to school
2. Credit card over the phone, you still need to complete an order form & return it to school with the 11-digit receipt number
3. Cash (correct money) in an envelope with the completed order form
4. Cheque (made payable to Scholastic Australia) with the completed order form
Orders are due back to school by Friday 8 August, with delivery around one week later.
Chicken update
REPOST and correction of a typo for my phone number - ooops!
It’s been a while since I’ve done a chicken update. They have gotten through their molting season and are back laying eggs again. I hope we will have more eggs for sale in term 3. Please look out for these and any fresh produce for sale at assembly. We take cash or QKR payments. All money goes back into the school garden.
We are always happy to have new families to look after the chickens on the weekends. The commitment involves letting them out in the mornings, and putting them away in the evenings before sunset. For your efforts, you get to keep the eggs they lay. I will meet with you to train you on the finer details. I’ll be doing a new roster for term 3 & 4 soon, so text me if you would like to get involved. 0413 218 761.
In the meantime if you have excess vegetable scraps and want to bring them up to the school, the chickens will love to eat them. The more veggies they eat, the healthier they are. The only things they can’t eat are potatoes, avocado, and the onion family, and they’re not a huge fan of citrus. Please feed them through the feeding holes in the wire. They love anything green: lettuce, spinach, beans, broccoli. They love corn as well.
They also really love weeds so if you do any weeding or see any weeds walking to school, then feel free to bring them up for the chickens too. You can throw weeds straight over the wooden fence for them.
I hope everyone had a lovely winter term break. And I’m looking forward to connecting with some new families for the up and coming roster early in term 3.
From Jackie (the slightly obsessed chicken lady!)
Big Group Hug
Every child deserves to feel warm and comfortable. Unfortunately, many children in our community are living without the most basic necessities - warm clothing and bedding. This is where you come in!
We’re asking the RPS community to donate new and pre-loved winter clothing and bed linen for children aged 1-16 (sizes 4-16 most needed) for distribution to the families Big Group Hug supports in the cold winter months, and year-round.
