A note from Mr Jackson

Welcome Back To Term 3!
I hope the holidays proved a time to renew and relax, as well as a chance to celebrate family life. With only a few days down, it seems that the term has started with a layer of smoothness.
NAIDOC Week at Rosanna Primary
Monday 21 July to Friday 25 July
While the NAIDOC Week of celebration across Australia was held in the first week of the school holidays, students have celebrated the richness of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures this week. These classroom experiences are an opportunity to continue to celebrate First Nations’ culture and to seek understanding and pathways forward towards reconciliation.
Welcome to Country and Cultural Smoking Ceremony
Friday 25 July
All our community are invited to attend this special assembly on Friday at 9:00am. The Welcome to Country is a significant cultural tradition that has a history spanning tens of thousands of years. We are privileged that Perry Wandin, a Wurundjeri Elder, will lead us.
Three Way Conferences
Continue Next Week
Thanks to those who have sat with students and teachers during the Three Way Conferences that started on Wednesday. These Conferences are an opportunity to gather around students’ learning and explore their progress over the initial two terms of the year. It fosters student ownership of learning, strengthens the home-school partnership, and enhances communication and understanding of progress.
2026 Prep Enrolment Due
Friday 25 July
A reminder that enrolments for 2026 Preps are due this coming Friday. Letters of confirmation will be sent to parents on Monday. This enrolment information will be used to support development of the workforce plan and 2026 class structure. If you know of family members or neighbours who are preparing for their child’s enrolment, please ensure that enrolment forms have been completed and received.
Student Leadership Ceremony
Friday 1 August at 9:00am
Next Friday, we look forward to celebrating the leadership of students. Student leaders are role models, advocates, and organizers who contribute to a positive and engaging learning environment. They develop crucial skills like communication and teamwork, while fostering a sense of community within the school.
Class Sustainability Leaders and Junior School Councillors who will lead over the coming semester will be presented with their badges by the Member for Jagajaga, Kate Thwaites. Family members of newly inducted leaders are invited to join in a special morning tea hosted by FORPS.
ICAS Assessment Registration Reminder Monday 28 July
Earlier this week, a news feed post on Compass reminded parents of the upcoming deadline for registrations for ICAS assessments. Monday is the final opportunity to register interest in participating. More information can be found in this post to the community published this week.
Promoting Inclusion Through the Installation of Ramps
Term 3 Start
Many will have noted a number of changes, foreshadowed last term, to our site. New fencing, machinery and faces are onsite as the installation of ramps in seven zones takes place.
We have unfortunately, lost a number of native gums near Chandler Hall and one particular tree that will be missed on the oval. While we will be replanting in place of each tree that is lost, it will take some time before such plantings mature and be enjoyed by our community. We have fortunately, been able to make changes to architectural plans to ensure we can retain all the large iron bark trees in the stand along Davies Street.
To minimise disruption to learning and school life, these capital works have been grouped into zones that will be worked on over the coming six months. Parents and carers who have been onsite this term will have seen the initial works happening between the lower building and the admin block. The next area of works will see a ramp leading from the STEM Garden down to the sandpit.
These works are conducted by the Victorian Schools Board Authority (VSBA) to ensure all schools are both welcoming and inclusive of all students.
Swimming Begins Years 1 and 2
Thursday 24 July
While last term saw students in the 3/4 Learning Area continue to develop their swimming skills, this week, students in Year 1 and Year 2 classes slipped into the Ivanhoe Aquatic Centre pool today. We look forward to hearing their experiences over the coming weeks.
Term 3 Staffing Changes
We’re saying farewell to Taya Eddy this week as she leaves Rosanna Primary. Taya has been on staff at Rosanna Primary since 2012. Over this time, she has taught across a range of learning areas and has always been a passionate advocate for the teaching of literacy. In recent years, she has taken leave to grow a family. We are grateful for her contribution to Rosanna Primary School and wish her well as she ventures to the tertiary sector.
At the same time, we welcome Jamie Rodgers onto staff as an Education Support staff person. Jamie will join the growing number of Education Support staff working with a range of students in various classrooms across the school.
We also welcome Hayley Murray who is returning from a period of leave. Hayley is a valued member of staff and will share 34R with Natalie Richardson. Hayley will also support student learning in the 3/4 Learning Area in the area of tutoring.
NAPLAN Parent Reports Yr 3 and Yr 5
From Monday 28 July
Formal NAPLAN Reports have been received and will be ready for distribution from Monday. Parents of students can pick them up from the office from Monday morning.
Science Takes Over in Term Three
Students across the school will be exploring a range of science concepts this term. The 3/4 Learning Area will lead the way by sinking their teeth into the nature of forces next week with their ‘Mad About Science’ incursion.
