Principal's Message

It has been pleasing witnessing the excitement that our children have for the free fruit and vegetables that have been offered to them through the Department of Education’s Breakfast Club program. Although most children seem to have fruit in their lunch boxes, they are really keen for the special fruit that the school is providing.

Year 5/6 update

Our Year 5/6 children have a busy week coming up. On Tuesday of next week, the Year 5s are venturing to Lilydale High School to watch the production of Popstars! The 90’s Musical. On Wednesday many of the Year 5/6 children are involved in our Wakkakiri performance. On Thursday they all have a special cyber safety session with Susan McLean and on Friday the Year 5’s designs are due for the 2026 Year 6 jumper.  It is great that we can offer so many extra experiences for our senior school students.

Book Week Dress Up Day and Bedtime Stories Evening

We will be holding our annual book character dress up day to celebrate our love of reading and Book Week on Monday 18 August.  Everyone is invited to dress up as their favourite book or character. We will be holding a special assembly to show off the dress ups at

9:15 am in the Gym. This will be in place of our normal 2:30pm assembly.

We will continue to celebrate book week and reading as we run our Bedtime Stories evening on Tuesday 19 August from 6 – 7pm. We encourage all families to come to school in their pyjamas and dressing gowns and hear a bedtime story read by teachers from across the school. There will be 4 classrooms setup and families are invited to move around the school and hear a story being read in each room.

Portable removal update

We should learn not to get our hopes up with the pace at which construction works take place in government schools!  The demolition works that we thought were happening in the holidays have nearly been completed (at the end of week 3). We are still waiting on the service connections to the Year 2 portable classrooms and some concreting to patch up the trench that will be dug for the services.

Once these works are completed, we can then begin the process of installing our new playground. We have had to wait until the portables were removed before we could submit our planning documentation to the Victorian School Building Authority for approval.  Once we get approval, we can award the contract to a playground company and get on with the playground installation.  I’m really hoping that we will be able to use our new playground by the end of the year.

Wakkakiri – Wednesday 13 August

The Wakkakiri team have been busily rehearsing during recess and lunch times as they prepare for their big performance on Wednesday 13 August. It has been wonderful to see their absolute enthusiasm for the dance. They will be performing at Monday’s assembly which will be their first time performing in costume and with a live audience.

We are looking forward to a great night’s entertainment on Wednesday 13 August!

Regards,

Michael Puddy
