Soccer

On the school holidays, I had the opportunity to go to Spain to play soccer with the Villarreal football club. Villarreal is a top team in the Spanish league called La Liga. I was selected with 4 other kids from my soccer club each player represented different ages and I represented the under 12’s.

It was a really long flight to get to Spain. It took one and a half days to get there and I barely slept but it was worth it.

The day after we arrived, we got to see the Villarreal professional team play against Almeria, at their home ground called Estadio De La Ceramica, also known as the Yellow Submarine. It was a really entertaining match and lucky Villareal won 2-1 and they scored a last minute winner. We even got to sit in the VIP section.

After that, we began a week of training. They put me with the under 13/14 squad where everybody was really good and it was very tough. All of the coaches spoke Spanish but luckily I had one coach to translate to english for me. We did small group training in the mornings and then we trained with the full team in the evenings. In between we had spare time to eat lunch then go to the beach and play more soccer. There are some kids that come from all over the world to live in Spain and train with Villarreal. They go to school there and there is even a hotel for people to stay at in the club.

On one of the days, we had three professional players meet us. We got to take pictures with them and we also got their autographs and it was very exciting. We also had a tour of the stadium where we saw the players come on the field, where their change rooms are and where they do press conferences with the reporters.

On the last day, we drove to Valencia to do some sightseeing which is a really old and beautiful city.

It was a really fun trip and I wish I was able to stay there longer. It was one of the best experiences I've ever had.
