Break It Down Day - Friday 13th October

As part of the 'Break It Down Project' that our amazing student leaders have been leading across the school and beyond, we will be hosting a Break It Down Day on Friday 13th October.

The BREAK IT DOWN day will be a day for us all to learn about breaking down stereotypes & bias and showing our collective commitment to breaking it down!

Our student leaders are currently working on an amazing schedule of bias-breaking activities for the day, which we will release in the first week of Term 4, but for now, we would love our families to SAVE THE DATE, as part of the day's program, we will be hosting a community diversity picnic at lunch time from 1:30-2:15PM on the oval on Friday 13th October, where we will be inviting families to bring a (labelled) plate of food to share from their culture and invite other families to join them to share a meal and part of their culture or social group to help break down stereotypes. We would love to see as many families join in as possible.

There will be a host of other activities running across lunch that families can get involved in. We will also be hosting a special assembly at 2:15PM in the gym where we will be screening the 'Break It Down' documentary that is being created as part of the project.

We are also interested to hear from any parents/family members that may wish to volunteer on the day to run mini workshops around breaking down stereotypes. If this is you, please reach out to Francine.Sculli@education.vic.gov.au and share your workshop idea!

On the note of the documentary, our student leaders will also be hosting a documentary filming day down at Visy Cares Hub on Tuesday 3rd October from 9:30AM-3PM, led by Ralph Barba from Making Media. They are inviting students from other schools, youth in the area and community organisations working with young people to come down and share their voices, stories, expert advice and personal experiences on stereotyping and bias and its impact on young people. We welcome anyone in our community to come down and share their voice too!
