STEP super Chef Restaurant 2023

This year we embarked on our STEP Super Chef Restaurant Journey with a small group of 10 students.

We met as a group for the first time on the 11th of August between 3.20 and 4.40pm. The student were set the challenge of preparing a two course meal to be served in just 1 hour. The busily got to work making Tandoori Chicken and Asian inspired  papadum stacks for main course and a delicious Chocolate brownie served with whipped cream and fanned strawberries.

On August 17th, Chef Brad Mill taught the students how to make pasta. Followed by a session on Friday 18th where he cooked up and plated the 5 course degustation meal for the students to sample and complete a sensory profile on each dish. This activity helped the students to understand what they would be cooking, educated their palates and challenged their knowledge and cooking skills.

On the 25th the students practiced making risotto and tested their skills and knowledge with herbs and spices. Can you guess all 20 herbs and spices?

Then on Thursday the 8th students had their first visit to the restaurant, they became familiar with the layout and organisation and began working to prepare for the meal. Friday 9th of August was the big day, the students began their shift at 3.45pm setting up the tables and preparing food. They enjoyed a Mexican meal together before commencing the restaurant service at 6.30pm.

Each student was presented with a certificate of participation acknowledging their new found skills and knowledge and their achievement.

A special Thanks to Oscar’s Hangout, and Brad Mill for making this possible as well as Janelle Scott STEP leader at  PSC and staff, parents and community members who supported  by attending on the night.
