Assistant Principal Report Senior School

By James Cumming

As term 3 comes to an end, it has been pleasing to reflect on the positive outcomes and events for our senior students.

Congratulations to the Senior Girls AFL side who were crowned State Champions on Thursday 24th of August. The girls remained undefeated for the year, winning 9 games on the way to defeat Western Heights College in the state final 36-26.

For our year 12 students, term 3 was their last full term of official school. With the finish line in sight, all students sitting unit 3+ 4 exams should use the holidays as an opportunity to prepare for exams. I encourage these students to effectively plan their time and include strategies such as revising course content using subject study designs and completing specific timed exam practice. Students should utilise their teacher’s knowledge and experience to seek guidance regarding their exam preparation and seek feedback on practice exam responses. Practice exams will be conducted at the college from Monday 25th to Wednesday 27th of September in the senior centre. The practice exam timetable can be found on the student’s Compass Newsfeed. The practice exams will be conducted in line with VCAA Rules and Regulations to best prepare our students.

Our students undertaking a Vocational Major have participated in several events and initiatives during term 3. This has included fundraising and awareness projects such as the athletics carnival BBQ, choc chip cookie stall, egg and bacon breakfast, donation drive for ‘Share the Dignity’, donation food drive for ‘The Salvos’ and a year 12 free dress day raising money for Zaidee’s Foundation. The students have raised $1030 for Beyond Blue during term 3.

On Thursday 7th of September our Year 12 VCAL students completed their presentation evening. Students delivered a formal speech and visual display on their educational journey. Congratulations to all students involved!

Lastly, I would like to wish all senior students a safe and restful break. We are looking forward to having you all back for term 4.
