On Wednesday 6 September, more than 90 students graced the stage and showcased a diverse range of performances spanning genres including Bollywood, jazz, contemporary, Irish dance, hip-hop, lyrical, and tap.
It was an outstanding triumph, and my heartfelt congratulations to all the students for their commitment, dedication, and countless hours of rehearsal. Your performances were truly entertaining and you should all be incredibly proud.

On Saturday 9 September, we hosted our annual contemporary music festival, SoNiC, featuring our talented Certificate III Music bands Serotainment, EeeYeah, Why Monkey Why, Common Sense, Everything’s Gone Wrong, and Pluto In Retrograde. We packed into Vision Studios in East Victoria Park for an afternoon of great music and good vibes, as our six bands took to the stage with confidence, delivering 30 minute sets of popular music by the likes of Billie Eilish, The Killers, Maroon 5, Paramore, Stevie Wonder and Elvis Presley.
Thank you to Mrs Kathryn Crocker, Ms Tania Harvey and Mr Peter Hawke for their support in organising the event, to Vision Studios for allowing us to host our event, to the parents, carers, family and staff for coming along to watch, and most importantly to our Year 11 and 12 Certificate III bands for putting on a show stopping performance.
Congratulations to Nicholas Navarra (Year 11), who took out first place in the Under 18 Classical Voice category of the North Perth Eisteddfod Music Festival. As a result, Nick will perform at the Morley Sport and Recreation Centre on Sunday 15 October, alongside multiple Eisteddfod winners, as part of the winners concert. Congratulations, Nick!

Last weekend, the Independent Theatre Association WA held their annual youth theatre competition, YouthFest. YouthFest is open to schools, and theatre troupes from all across WA, where each group is asked to perform a one-act play ranging between 10-50 minutes long. The competition was held at Aquinas College, with hundreds of young actors displaying their passion and hard work through the art of theatre.
A couple of months ago, with very little experience in playwriting, I had an idea for a play and from then on devoted my spare time to writing the show. I established an independent company for myself, Shenanigans Independent Theatre, and I taught myself how to write technical sheets for lighting and sound, to be eligible for the competition.
The play featured my talented fellow Year 12 students, Mary Carter and Brodie Christie, in a comedic exploration of identity, desire, and friendship. The show tackles relevant themes of modern times, including relationships and consent, the rise of artificial intelligence, and the destructive nature of social media.
The awards were presented on Sunday 17 September, with 'Don't Slay the Messenger' winning the following:
Thank you to Mrs Kathryn Crocker, and the Arts Department, for allow us to use the space the rehearse, and to Mr David Yeoh for helping source props for the show. Finally, I would like to thank Mary Carter and Brodie Christie for being such talented actors, an absolute pleasure to work with and for going along with my ideas, no matter how insane they may sound.
