R U OK? Day

R U OK? Day

On Thursday 14 September, the College came together and raised awareness for R U OK? Day. Students enjoyed their lunch in the open green vista outside the Xanten Performing Arts Centre, to the smooth sounds of Why Monkey Why helmed by Year 12 Music students Nicole Bourguignon, Rebecca Atwood and Glen Brosztl, and guest drummer, Mr Luke Di Labio. Heads of House handed out some reading materials to help students have a conversation and check in with each other.

The event was headlined by our College Counsellor, Mrs Kristin Chan, who talked students through the steps of having a conversation and checking in with each other. Following four steps in approaching and having that conversation, can make a difference to a person that may be struggling. Below is a resource that can be used by parents or carers to assist their child in having that conversation.

Thank you to Mr Patrick Ah Fong and Mrs Leon Rogers for oraganising this event.

St Norbert College Blue Tree Community Project

The Blue Tree Project acts as a beacon of hope and conversation starters to change the way we talk about mental health. As a community, we'd like to foster a 'it's ok not to be ok' culture, that encourages empathy for others and reduces the stigma around speaking up about mental health concerns.

To do this, we need your help. If you can knit, crochet or weave, and you'd like to take part in this initiative, can you please create a blue square, of any shade or size, that can be joined together to 'yarn bomb' a living tree as a permanent fixture at the College.

All donations are gratefully accepted and can be dropped off to the Head of House office or to Administration.

City of Canning Youth Services

We continued our partnership with the City of Canning, with Youth Activity Officers joining us to recognise R U OK? Day at the College, handing out care packages to students.

Included in the care packages, was a flyer inviting young people living in the City of Canning to join a Youth Consultant Network. Members of the Youth Consultant Network ensure that the City of Canning receive a youth perspective on any future projects or issues impacting the community.

More information about the Youth Consultant Network, including the sign up form, is available on the Notices and Reminders page.
