Stage 3

Striving for Excellence

Stage 3 had a very busy term 3 with lots of things happening across the school. Our Science learning was also fun, interesting and kept us busy.

We have been learning about the Physical World around us, with a focus on forces in term 3. Students learned the difference between contact and non-contact forces (push and pull) and how energy is transformed from one form to another. We researched and investigated applied force, gravity, air resistance, friction and buoyancy. We made predictions and tested them out in a range of practical, hands-on investigations.

To test out our knowledge of air resistance, we created a parachute, testing for the slowest fall time

As part of our investigation of applied force, we developed our own pulley systems to help reduce the effort when lifting a heavy load.

Finally, we experimented buoyancy using a range of items and materials to test what items would float or what would sink and explain why.

Students were highly engaged in their learning and Stage 3 teachers were impressed with their creativity and curiosity. Well done Stage 3!
