Striving for Excellence

English: Learning Intention: To create persuasive texts that convince the reader.

 

Striving for excellence looks like:

Using a plan to organise arguments and reasons

Using thinking verbs, e.g. I believe

Using ‘because’ to support arguments

Using high modality words to show feelings, e.g. definitely

Ayra used the success criteria to strive for excellence when writing a persuasive text. She highlighted to check she had included: thinking verbs, because statements and high modality words. 

 

Aarishya composed a persuasive text and used ‘because’ to justify her arguments.

Keira wrote a persuasive text that convinces readers that ‘she needs a new room’.  She used high modality words when persuading, e.g. absolutely, 

Bossi composed a persuasive text that convinces readers that ‘he needs a new room’.  He used thinking verbs when persuading, e.g. want, know 

 

Kris used a plan to organise his persuasive arguments about why ‘he needs a new room’.

Striving for excellence looks like:

 

  • Students completing a challenge using their technical and engineering skills. 

 

STEM Pirate Challenge: Students designed, created and tested their own pirate ships. 

 

Do Ink Challenge: Students collaborated to plan and re-create the story of ‘The Three Little Pigs’ using a green screen app.

Scratch Junior Mission: Students used their programming skills to move characters across the screen.

Bee Bots Challenge: Students navigated a maze by programming a robot.

Sphero Challenge: Students used their programming skills to participate in a range of games such as Sphero bowling.

 

Positive Behaviour at Lunch & Recess: Learning Intention: All stage 1 students will be safe respectful soccer players. 

 

Striving for excellence looks like:

  • All students being active 
  • Cheering on teammates (encouraging language)
  • Showing sportsmanship
  • Playing fairly (not taking a dive)
  • Following LPS soccer rules

 

This week students will be exploring what makes a safe, respectful soccer player.  Staff will be supporting students with understanding the LPS soccer rules.
