Request for Traffic Management review

Kelly Davis

I am a parent, and also a member of the School Council. At our recent School Council meeting, a number of issues/incidents/concerns were discussed regarding the chaotic traffic situation which occurs each morning around our school. In particular along Culloden St at the front of the school, but also Wales St and Shetland Ave at the side boundaries of the school.

At the end of Term three I contacted both Merri-bek council and Vic Roads and have had cases raised to review the traffic management plan around the school, in order to bring the safety of our students and families in line with other schools in our area.

The following safety issues were raised as these are where Brunswick North West Primary School is currently lacking compared to all other schools in the area:

- Reduction of Speed Limits in School Zones

- Speed bumps at school main entrance

- School Crossing in front of main entrance

- Restricted parking / Drop off zones during drop off and pick up

- Restrictions to turning in and out of Culloden St from Melville Rd in school peak hours.

During a follow up call with Merri-bek this week I was pleased that the case had progressed and had been assigned to three different departments for review, and that it had a Priority as it concerned Primary School children. I will continue to follow this up fortnightly if I don’t hear back from them sooner.

Feel free to get in touch via the office if you would like to discuss.

If you are interested in being involved in these sorts of discussions at a school level, please consider reaching out to myself, Hannah, or Helen Ruth (President, School Council) for more information on School Council and Sub-Committees
