French Study Tour 2023 – Lycée Félix le Dantec, Lannion. France

In week 9 of Term 3, 16 students from Years 9, 10 and 11 departed for a 17-day study tour to France. We were accompanied by three teachers, Madame Sly, Ms Cilia and Mr Butler, our former Assistant Principal. After 35 hours of travel via two planes and two trains we arrived in Lannion. Lannion is a town located in the Northwest region of Brittany.

On the Sunday we had a picnic at Village Gaulois, which is the same type of village featured in Asterix and Obelix. During our stay we attended Lycée Felix le Dantec which is a local high school. This school is technology oriented and has a student population of about 3000. Lannion is a community where most people know each other, and we were even featured in the local newspaper.

At our sister school, we attended a few classes with our host students and visited some local attractions including, the Cité de Télécoms, Mont Saint Michel, the Cathedral de Tréguier and the town of Gerros-Guirec, which included a boat tour to a native birdlife reserve.

After our wonderful week with our host families, we departed for Paris. Along the way we visited two castles, Château de Chenonceau and Château de Chambord. Both are stunning castles with impressive views. In Paris, we travelled using the metro which was a new experience. We visited the Eiffel Tour, the Louvre Museum, the Champs Élysées (where we saw King Charles III), Montmartre, Sacré Cœur Basilica, and the Château de Versailles.

The tour to France was a fun and educational experience, which allowed us to develop our French speaking and comprehension skills on a practical level. I thoroughly encourage any students, given the opportunity, to partake in an overseas exchange in the future and consider hosting a student from France, when students from Lycée Felix le Dantec return to Nossal HS in February 2024.
