Year 3/4 Cluster Newsletter Term 3 Holidays

 

Term 4, Week 1 Learning

Literacy:  

Jolly Spelling: Year 3: “y” for <i> sound as in abyss, myth. Year 4: suffix “– ory” as in history, victory.   

Jolly Grammar: Year 3: Homophones: our/hour. Year 4: Homophone mix-ups 

Writer’s Workshop:  Students will focus on refining and further developing their editing skills in their writing.  

Reader’s Workshop: This term will begin with a focus on students being a part of a “Book Club” – sharing what they read with each other.  

 

Mathematics:  

This week we will begin to work on collecting data and statistics. It will link in with our “How the World Works” unit. 

 

Unit of Inquiry: 

We will continue our unit on investigations in “How the World Works”. We continue to carry out some investigations and learn about how to conduct fair experiments as well as record our observations scientifically and accurately, including predicting and hypothesizing.  We will start to work towards our assessment of this unit early in term 4.  

 

Christian Studies:  

We will start a new unit in Christian Studies this term. It will link in with our final inquiry unit for the year. More details to come.  

 

Announcements / Diary Dates: 

  • Monday 6th November – Thursday 9th November – Swimming week. Forms will be sent home on Monday week 1 and must be returned no later than Friday 27th October.
  • 3/4S will lead chapel in week 4 (Friday November 10th)  
  • Apps to install: Please ensure that your child has “Word” or “Pages” on their iPad. We will be increasing our use of these word processing apps.
