Principal's update

Hello everyone,
Welcome to school for 2026 for all new and returning families, carers and friends.
As most people will know, this year I have reduced my work time to 0.6 (three days). Jess Jensen has returned to the school as co-principal and to also undertake a curriculum leadership role. Jess will be available five days per week. This year we will publish the newsletter fortnightly to reduce repetition in each issue. The newsletter will continue to contain the same information as last year and as in this issue. We we aloso continue to use Compass to share upcoming events and information. Our social media pages will also continue to showcase what has been happening at the school. if you every have any questions, comments or would like to pop in for a chat, Jess and I would love to see you.

A notice of election and call for nominations for the School Council has been posted on the notice board opposite the school office. The term of office for members is two years
The School Council has 3 vacancies in the parent category (2 positions are filled with a year remaining).
I have attached two fact sheets about the role of the School Council. The School Council meets twice per term, with meetings running from 5.30-7.30. If you would like to know more, please contact me. If you wish to nominate yourself or another parent, nomination forms are availabe from me or located on the bookshelf opposite the office.
Nominations close at 4:00pm on Friday 06 February.
Parents and Friends
Please refer to our Parents and Friends page for more information about this group
School hats
It is a SunSmart requirement that students wear a broad brim hat when the UV is forecast to be 3 or above (generally terms 1 and 4). School hats are usually available for purchase from the school office, but we are waiting for the latest order to arrive. Students may wear broad brim hats from home while we wait for school hats. Students who do not wear a hat are asked to play under one of the three shade sail areas, under the verandahs or under the elms in the sandpit. If you do not want your child to wear a hat, please send me an email stating so.
walking excursion, internet access and photo permission
Parent consent for the above and further information is posted on Compass. If you have any questions, please see the office
car parking on Lyell St
The grass on the nature strip opposite the school on Lyell St is currently long and dry and a potential fire risk. I have placed a request with the Mount Alexander Council for it to be mown. In the meantime I would request parents to not park on the nature strip due to risk of the grass igniting from hot car exhausts.
I acknowledge that parking on Lyell St can be difficult. Parking is a local council responsibility and they aware of how busy the street is school drop off and more so at pick up times.
parent teacher interviews
We will hold parent / teacher interviews on Wednesday 11 February from 2:30 to 5:30.
This will be an opportunity to talk with teachers about your child/children and to share information. You will be able to book an interview time on Compass from Monday
OSH care in 2026
This year we welcome a new OSH provider - OSHC Adeverntures to our school.
OSHC Adventures are localy based and are providing OSHC services at other schools in the area. The attached flyer and links below provides further information
