My name is Monica Sestito. I’m an Italian-Australian teacher of Italian and English as an Additional Language, and a long-term lover of languages and literature. I’m excited to be joining the Languages team at Northcote High School, after recently completing my teaching qualification and year-long internship at another public school in Melbourne’s north. I have a background in writing and multilingual communications, and I’m excited to bring this passion to the students I have the privilege of working with at Northcote High. Outside of teaching, I love reading, cooking and strolling along the Merri Creek.

I’m very pleased to be joining the NHS community as a teacher with experience in secondary mathematics and science. I’m passionate about helping students build confidence, strong learning habits, and practical skills that support long-term success. I have a particular interest in clear assessment and feedback, and I value working closely with students, families, and colleagues to support every learner’s growth.

I am excited to join NHS as Mathematics and Science teacher. A long time ago I graduated with a PhD in Pure Mathematics and spent a short time teaching mathematics at University, before going to work in the Financial Services sector leading Financial and Risk Modelling teams in banks in London, Singapore and Australia. Outside of work my lifelong passion is rock-climbing, I am Treasurer of Sport Climbing Victoria, and I still climb three or four times a week trying to keep up with my teenage children who represent Victoria in National Climbing Competitions. I’m looking forward to getting to know the NHS community and helping my students have a positive experience of mathematics.
