Master plan - Gymnasium

Shaping the Future: Northcote High School Masterplan and Our Next Priority Project

Northcote High School is entering an exciting phase of long-term planning as we work toward funding for the 2nd Priority Project as part of the School Masterplan that guides the development of our facilities over the coming decade. This Project reflects our commitment to providing contemporary learning environments that support student wellbeing, community connection, and excellence in teaching and learning.

A key priority identified within the Masterplan is the redevelopment of the school gymnasium, which will become a central hub for physical education, health, wellbeing, sport; highlighting basketball and volleyball, and community use.

The New Gymnasium – What’s Planned

The proposed gymnasium is envisioned as a three-storey, multi-purpose facility designed to meet the current and future needs of our students and staff.

The building will be designed with sustainability and longevity in mind, incorporating passive design principles, energy-efficient systems, and durable materials. The external architecture will reflect the character of the school, with a brick façade, with glazing to maximise natural light and minimise impact from St Georges Road.

Where We’re Up To

Our School Council is currently working closely with the Department of Education to progress through the formal planning and approvals process required to seek funding for this project. This includes refining the educational brief, confirming scope and priorities, and ensuring the project aligns with broader departmental infrastructure planning.

While funding has not yet been confirmed, this work is a critical step in positioning Northcote High School strongly for future investment and ensuring we are ready to move forward when opportunities arise.

We have been working with a local architecture firm, CO.OP to develop the Concept Design to share with our school community that highlights the features of the proposed building and the development of a ‘cohesive school identity’: red bricks and lighter metal work above. The architect has created a series of renders of the Concept Design to share with you.

We look forward to sharing further updates as this exciting project takes shape.
