Information Session Q+A

Thank you for joining us at last week’s Parent Information Session. We hope you found it helpful and informative. Below, you’ll find responses to the questions submitted via the QR code during the session.

Thank you for your participation and for sharing your questions with us.

Question 1. What’s the easiest way to access Nessy if you’ve misplaced your login?Nessy logins, along with any other ICT logins, will be sent out by the end of Week 3. If logins are misplaced after this time, parents can request them by visiting the school website https://newlandsps.vic.edu.au/parents/#ICT_Accounts and completing the ICT login request form.

Question 2. Why was the 10-minute pre-start (soft start) period removed before the 9:00am school start?

As outlined in the last newsletter, "due to organisational factors the school will not be implementing soft starts in 2026. Morning music will begin at 8:57am, at which time students should move to their classroom door and line up ready to enter. Teachers will meet students at the door and welcome them into the classroom. Classes will commence at 9:00am. To minimise interruptions to learning, please ensure your child arrives on time and ready for the day."

Question 3. Is there a preference for lunch and afternoon tea to be in separate lunch boxes, or can they be together?

It is perfectly fine for lunch and snacks to be packed together in one lunchbox. Some teachers may suggest separate containers for smaller snacks purely for ease of management, particularly for younger students.

Question 4. Will there be colour houses this year? If so, will new Preps be placed in the same house as siblings?

Yes, the school continues to use house colours for whole-school and special events such as athletics days and cross country carnival. Siblings are placed in the same house to make these events easier, particularly when students dress in house colours or are grouped by house.

Our house colours are:

  • Merri Merri Ambar – Yellow
  • Edgars Carmine – Red
  • Darebin Celeste – Blue
  • Birrarung Salvia – Green
  • Kurrum Malva – Purple

Question 5. Why isn’t the parent helper program run on Wednesdays in Years 1/2?Parent helpers are not invited every day, as specialist classes are scheduled during some morning sessions, which creates a clash. If you have specific availability, please contact your child’s teacher or note this on the parent helper availability form.

Question 6. How do parents access or regenerate an access key for the Sentral app?For any questions regarding Sentral access, please visit the school office. The office will be able to assist with regenerating access keys.

Question 7. Can parents be notified when homework is sent home and when it is due?Homework will commence on Friday of Week 3. Homework will be sent home in students’ communication folders, and reminders will also be included in the school newsletter.
