0ne-two-rful 1/2s

Term 4 Week 10 2023 - Friday 8th November

What have we been up to?

And then there was one! After months and months of wonderful learning we have arrived at the final newsletter for the year. The Year 1 and 2 students should be so proud of their efforts over the last year and all set up well for the year ahead.

This fortnight in Reading, students have been investigating the features of literary texts that include letters or other forms of transactional writing. Each class read the Jolly Postman and explored the different types of letters that the postman delivered on his adventure. In addition, students have also been building their capacity to answer inferential questions about characters and events in the text.

In Writing, students have finalised their unit of learning about Transactional pieces of writing and wrote their letter or postcard independently. Students based sure to include a greeting, date, body of writing and a sign off. These pieces of writing will be ready to be shared on Friday the 8th at the Leadership Notebook open afternoon.

In Maths, students have been continuing to build their understanding of division and how to break collections of items into equal sized groups. They have also been looking at how division problems can be represented using arrays and the relationship between division and multiplication.

In Inquiry, students have been exploring how Christmas traditions vary across the world and the unique ways that different cultures celebrate the festive season. In Science, students have been exploring how sound and light are interpreted by the human brain.

Whilst I’m sure many of us are excited for the holidays to roll around, it's worth acknowledging the hard work that everyone has put in to make this year such a success. Take time over the school holidays to recharge and Sharpen those saws. We look forward to seeing everyone again when school resumes in 2024.

What is coming up?

Reading

In Reading, students will continue developing their comprehension skills by exploring how to make an inference. By using evidence from the text, students will interpret the deeper meaning behind characters actions and events in a text.

Writing

Over the final full week of school, students will be given the opportunity to write in any of the styles of writing that they have learnt about this year. They will aim to create a fully published piece of writing that they will add to their leadership notebooks before the Term concludes.

Maths

In Maths, students will be exploring the everyday language of chance by describing events as likely, unlikely, possible and impossible. They will investigate the relationship between events and how certain factors can make another event either more likely or less likely to occur.

Inquiry & Science

In Inquiry, students will look to complete a final task by sharing everything they have learnt about different cultures, traditions and celebrations this term. Science has concluded for this term
