SCHOOL OF WONDER

Ivy's Foundation class leads SOW Assembly

On Monday this week, it was Ivy's fabulous Foundation class that impressively led the assembly. Beginning as always with an Acknowledgement to Country, the children then celebrated their learning by sharing their written work inspired by the  phrase, What we praise God for... followed by a  cleverly crafted Stop Motion video exploring the school value, Respect Everyone and Everything. You can  view this delightful video below.

Exploring the world of Children's literature and their authors this term, Foundation classes have enjoyed delving deep into some classic picture story books. The Potato People by Pamela Allen, Room on a Broom by Julia Donaldson as well as the non-fiction text, Cats were just some of the books the children have enjoyed, and were keen to share their learning about.

Celebrating the culmination of their inquiry units, Grades 1/2 and 3/4  then presented  highlights and reflections from their major excursions. After a Grade 1/2 big day out to The Melbourne Zoo and an excursion to The Shepparton Botanic Gardens for the RiverConnect program for the 3/4s, there certainly was a great deal of learning and enriching experiences showcased.

We would like to take this opportunity to thank the many families who have attended our assemblies over the course of the year. We really appreciate your support and our students love sharing their achievements with you all!

PJ DAY

Today we had a PJ day. Students and staff came dressed in PJ’s and shared some favourite bedtime stories. We also came together at the end of the day and watched our school production, Matilda Jr. The Musical.

Upcoming Events/ Reminders

Final Assembly

Our final assembly for the year will be on Monday, December 11 in our 1/2 learning space.

Foundation Christmas Play

We are creating some wonderful new traditions for our learners and families at St Anne’s. A new tradition / celebration will include a Foundation Christmas Play. This will be on Friday, December 8 and Foundation families are invited to come and join in with what will be a memorable celebration. More details to come.

Italian Celebration Day

On Wednesday,  November 29 we are having a day of Italian Celebrations. Our learners will have various activities related to Italy.

Library

In order for our Library to be ready to commence for the beginning of 2024, we need to ensure that all of our books are returned by Friday, December 1. All borrowing will cease on Monday, November 27. Thank you all for your cooperation with this.

Hats and Sunscreen

In Term 4, it is a school expectation that we are all wearing hats when we are outside. If a student does not have a hat, they are required to stay under the covered areas provided. Please ensure that hats are clearly labelled with your child’s name.

All students are reminded and encouraged to bring their own SPF30 (or higher) broad-spectrum, water-resistant sunscreen to school. Staff will oversee the safe use of sunscreen.

At St Anne's College we live our school values every day. We respect everyone and everything, always do our best and help others succeed. We have been exploring how to express ourselves in different ways. We learnt how to make stop motion videos. We made a video showing different ways to live out our school values.

🆅🅴🅽🆃🆄🆁🅸🅽🅶 to the Botanic Gardens, Kialla on Thursday last week, Grade 3/4 students thoroughly enjoyed getting up close with a smattering of native creepy crawlies as part of the RiverConnect program; a community partnership initiative that aims to foster the community's love respect and connection to the river environment.

Below are a few written snippets from our bustling and bright 3/4 participants.

Gently broaching the significance of Remembrance Day customs and its history, Year 1/ 2 students  focussed on the special symbolism of the red poppy on Friday, November 10.

Having watched the beautiful BBC animation, 𝘗𝘰𝘱𝘱𝘪𝘦𝘴 (you can find the link below) the children also looked at illustrations in the picture story book, 𝘕𝘦𝘷𝘦𝘳 𝘍𝘰𝘳𝘨𝘦𝘵 by Claire Halifax and Simon O’Carrigan.

Inspired by the reflective and moving artworks, the children then consolidated their evolving understanding by recreating their own poppies using water colours, acrylics, pencils and pastels.

Following the highly successful and enjoyable Grade 1/2 visit to the Melbourne Zoo, students continued to be abuzz with tales of tails, flippers, wings, fur and scales as they regaled with stories of wonder and enjoyment from their visit.

With photography from Year 1 student, Bayden, included below, we hope you too can capture a sense of the students' very special day of learning and adventure at Australia's oldest zoo.

Working in collaboration on Wednesday, Grade 3/ 4 students discussed and focussed on the true meaning of Christmas as a time to celebrate the birth of Jesus Christ through j͓̽o͓̽y͓̽ and 𝓹𝓮𝓪𝓬𝓮.

As you can see from the banners so carefully created, the students not only worked harmoniously together, but crafted the most enduring and heartfelt messages.
