It's time to celebrate the fantastic learning that the School of Wonder children have achieved in Italian this year.

The college will host a School of Wonder Italian festa on Wednesday, November 29, when children will have the opportunity to enjoy a variety of fun and exciting elements of Italian culture.

A 'gelateria' - ice-cream shop - will be set up at the college on the day and children will visit and order their gelato using the Italian language that they have practised in Italian class. They will also get to participate in Italy's biggest sport - soccer - with a mini 'World Cup' to take place.

As Italy is also famous for its fine arts - le belle arti - children will have the opportunity to immerse themselves in art activities, music and dance on the day. They will also be able to try their hand at the centuries-old Italian sport of bocce and be treated to a traditional Italian sweet bread eaten at Christmas - panettone. Children will have the opportunity to view the film 'Luca' (rated G) which is a coming-of-age story about a young boy experiencing an unforgettable summer filled with gelato, pasta and endless scooter rides in a beautiful seaside town on the Italian Riviera.

As children will be offered gelato and panettone at the Italian festa, parents/carers are asked to please email their child's Pastoral Group Leader with any dietary requirements or dietary restrictions by Tuesday, November 21. There will be no cost for the gelato or panettone on the day.

Children can come to school on Italian festa day wearing gelato colours or dressed in their favourite soccer team colours. Please ensure your child is dressed comfortably to participate in sport activities on the day.

The children are very excited about the Italian festa and are busy practising their Italian language skills. Staff look forward to celebrating with the children on November 29.

THE ART OF GIVING

In giving their time and craft, the students are not only sharing a little bit of kindness but are contributing towards a brighter Christmas for those in need.

Leading up to the Christmas Market on Wednesday, December 6, a number of crafty and dedicated students have been spending their Wednesday and Thursday lunchtimes creating a variety of beautiful wares to sell on the evening. These items will be sold at the market with all proceeds going to the St Vincent De Paul Christmas Appeal.

In addition to the Christmas Market Makers, College students have also created pottery throughout the year to sell at the market. You can get a sneak peak of some of these glazed and special pieces by viewing the brief video and photographs below.

With great joy and skill, our very own College Librarian, Julie Villani has also crafted up an exquisite array of Christmas decorations to add to the variety of exciting products on sale. From delicate salt dough hangings (see recipe below) stamped with Nativity scenes and patterns to hand sewn heart baubles and delicately crocheted Christmas trees, Julie's creations are sure to delight.

You might need to be quick, however, because these handcrafted decorations are sure to disappear as quick as Santa up the chimney!

Why not try making some Salt Dough decorations yourself!
