Year 4 2024

Welcome to the 2024 school year!  We hope you had an enjoyable break! Please take the time to read the IMPORTANT information below to support your Year 4 child’s learning.

We also ask that you keep informed and action requests as they are posted to the Compass News Feed throughout the year.

SMART Spelling

To support our whole-school SMART Spelling (Michelle Hutchison) approach, your child will bring home a spelling sheet each Monday (commencing next week) with the words they have chosen. Please help your child to learn these words and their meanings throughout the week, in preparation for their spelling test each Friday.

Homework

Homework is given out on a Monday and due back at school on Friday. Homework will commence Monday 19 February.

Timestables

It is expected that by the end of Year 4, children will know all of their times tables and associated number facts. We will be developing these Numeracy skills at school and ask you to revise them with your children at home.

Reading and Diary

Year 4 students will use a diary to write their weekly homework in, record regular reading (with an expectation of a minimum of three nights reading and signed each week by a parent/guardian), as well as any reminders. It can also be used for parent/teacher communication.

Diaries are due back to school on Fridays.

Daily Reading

Please ensure your child is responsible for bringing a novel to school for daily reading.

Students can also borrow books from the Year 4 classrooms or the school Library.

Essential Assessment

An online differentiated and personalised assessment tool known as 'Essential Assessment' is used in Years 1 - 6 to deliver a whole school approach to formative and summative assessments in Maths. Essential Assessment is aligned with the curriculum and allows students to grow their
