Dear Parents and Carers
Welcome to the Week 8 newsletter. Thank you for your continued support of the school and for keeping Mrs Jen Charadia in your thoughts and prayers following her mother’s passing into eternal life. We pray that Jen and her family know the peace and strength of God’s compassionate and consoling presence at this time of loss and sadness.
As the end of Week 8 approaches, I would like to acknowledge the dedication shown to our students by all our staff on a day-to-day basis. Our teachers are writing reports at the moment whilst maintaining the teaching and learning programs for our students. With a grateful heart, I give thanks. Thank you to each of you, our parents and carers, who continue to support the school by preparing your child for school each day. Often there are many additional planned activities for families at this time of year on top of normal school routines. Thank you for all you are doing to support your child and the school.
This week we showcase more talented artists and their ability to reflect on the Christmas Story.
Herod’s Orders
Adelle Sharman
St. Joseph’s Primary School, Bulli
Year Six
The Christmas story, full of happiness and joy, but what if it wasn’t, what if there’s a dark side to this journey? My artwork features the scripture passage Matthew 2:9-12 ‘The Visit of the Magi’ where the three wise men met with King Herod on their journey to Bethlehem. Herod requested for them to reveal the location of this new King. Little do they know that he has a sinister plan in mind to ensure he remains the one and only King. In my artwork, I have made King Herod the main focus, representing how much power he has and what he is capable of. The Angels are warning the three wise men about King Herod and informing them not to reveal where Jesus is. The flames above King Herod’s head burn with intensity to symbolise Satan and his evil works. The mediums I used were alcohol markers, watercolour paint and watercolour pencils as they blend easily. I feel that in life, we are often faced with many choices and challenges like the wise men.
Learning Leap into 2024
The classes for 2024 have been finalised. Students will spend time in their new class on Wednesday 13 December and teachers are looking forward to meeting with their new students. This is an opportunity for students to take a Learning Leap into 2024.
Thank you to those parents who have made written requests, addressed to the Principal, regarding any information that may affect the placement of their child into a class for 2024. Wherever possible, efforts have been made to accommodate concerns and requests. No further requests can now be considered.
Allocating students into classes for 2024 is a complex process, and what may seem like a reasonable request for a parent may have unintended consequences for your child or other students. The academic, social and emotional needs of all students are considered, and teachers have a very good knowledge of their students and how they operate in the learning environment. Thank you for trusting the school in our decision-making.
Friday Mufti Day-1 December (Gourmet Food Item)
Tomorrow, all students are invited to wear Christmas Mufti and bring in a gourmet food item. These gourmet food items will be collected and made into Christmas hampers which will be raffled at our Christmas Concert. All raffle proceeds will go to the St Vincent De Paul Christmas appeal. We thank you for your support and generosity.
We are committed to making the end of this year as productive and enjoyable as possible. We look forward to our Christmas Concert next week and hope you are able to join us as we come together as a school community for a wonderful evening of joyful singing and dramatic re-enactment of the Christmas story on Thursday 7 December at 5.45pm.
Student Leadership 2024
As notified through Compass last week, students have begun the process of nominating and electing student leaders for 2024. Please see the attached letter and St Joseph's School Leadership Policy and Procedures below for your information.
For all things at St Joseph's, we give thanks.

How does my child receive a Principal's Award?
Class teachers nominate students for Blue Merit Awards which are presented at the weekly assembly. When five Blue Merit Awards have been received, students send them to the school office to be recorded and are then eligible for a Principal’s Award. When students attain their 4th Principal Award, they are awarded a Principal’s Medallion at an assembly. End of Term awards can be included as part of the 5 awards.
Acknowledgement to Country
