Multicultural Committee News
The Multicultural Committee concluded with our final meeting on Monday 6 November. This was a great opportunity to reflect on all our accomplishments this year. The committee unanimously agreed that this year’s Multicultural Festival, which was showcased to the huge number of new visitors, was a great success. To continue this momentum for 2024, we will work on innovative event ideas and improve on previous ones.
Ms Suzanne Henry was our event coordinator. This was her first time as event coordinator, and she did a superb job organising this year's Festival! We would like to thank Ms Henry for her stellar performance and dedication to the committee and NGSC community. The bar was raised yet again, with an event to honour the rich diversity of our NGSC school community, fusing many cultures and reflecting the Australian multicultural society.
We extend our gratitude to all the Committee members: students, staff, parents and community representatives together with our network of service providers: Danielle Parker and Titit Nyak (COGG – FoRT) - their remarkable dedication has been invaluable to NGSC. A very special thank you to the following amazing people:
- Nooria Hussaini - Multicultural Captain and Committee’s Chairperson.
- Keir Osborne - Multicultural Committee’s minute secretary, diligently delivering timely MC minutes.
- Mrs. Barbara Peek - our honorary member continuing support in her retirement - Kindly donating her time, as well as generously delivering donations throughout the year for our students in need.
- Catherine Jonathan - Committee network member and parent (magazine publisher and media marketing platform of ‘Emerging Brand Africa’).
This year Catherine brought “Reginal Runways” workshops to the festival: Empower Art-Our Stories, Our Canvas Intuitive ART Workshop. The workshop was conducted by "Regional Runways" Inc (with the support of Victoria Gov) for NGSC students and was a remarkable success. The session was aimed at providing hands-on experience, fostering connection and a deeper understanding of intuitive art and meditation. The students expressed high levels of satisfaction as captured in the highlights below, on the photos and feedback forms. Given the positive feedback and the success of this workshop, there is a strong interest in organising similar events in the future. We recognise the value these sessions provide and are eager to continue offering such opportunities to NGSC students.
As this year has been a finale for our Year 12 class at NGSC, the Multicultural Captain Nooria Hussaini and her peers will step outside the gates and into the 'real world'. We wish them all the very best in their future endeavours! At the conclusion of another year, I would like to commend you all on your commitment and dedication to the Multicultural Committee in 2023. I hope you all have a grand finale to the end of this school year and into the festive season; make sure you enjoy and relax with your family.
Wishing each and every one a joyful festive season with a safe holiday period and I shall see you back in the new year - 2024!
