Introducing Amy Freuh
I am Amy Frueh, I have been working as an Occupational Therapist for 10+ years and in the disability sector for 19 years in various roles. I have previously worked in the NDIS sector since its rollout in Geelong, as a private practice therapist supporting children from 2-18 years of age. I have a passion for supporting children in developing strengths based and meaningful goals. I love that every day is different and brings a new perspective or challenge.
My role as a Paediatric OT means that I support children collaboratively with their parents/caregivers, school staff, other allied health/health professionals. OT’s support children to develop skills for participation in meaningful tasks. Some of the skills required are play skills, fine motor skills (using our hands), gross motor skills (using our bodies in a coordinated way), self care skills, sensory processing and regulation skills.
Some meaningful tasks may be: following routine, connecting with peers, tying shoelaces, handwriting, independence with toileting/eating/dressing, developing body awareness and regulating their body to match what is required for the task. OT’s address barriers to participation and provide strategies on what may be successful. We can provide assessment, education, intervention and recommendations of the skills and areas connected to strengths and needs of students.
At Newtown Primary School, I will be supporting teachers and ES staff to plan and implement adjustments and provide professional learning and advice for whole-school practices. I look forward to making a positive impact with the students and staff and empowering students to reach their learning potential.
