Specialists Update

The Arts:

The students have been very busy throughout the second half of this term, creating a diverse range of artworks inspired by changing seasons and special events, including World Oceans Day, World Bee Day, and National Reconciliation Week. 

 

Primary students explored a variety of creative activities, making paper plate bees and umbrellas, Aboriginal-inspired dot paintings, jellyfish paintings, winter artworks inspired by cosy mug cups, and winter-themed window decorations.

Secondary and Senior Secondary students experimented with different artistic styles and techniques, producing flower paintings inspired by the works of Georgia O’Keeffe and Van Gogh, silhouette rain paintings, aquarium fish artworks using salt-painting techniques, and textured winter mug cup art. 

 

These projects incorporated a range of materials and sensory experiences, including pasta, sticks, cotton wool, cardboard, and paint, encouraging creativity, exploration, and self-expression.

Dream Big:

Dream Big is a class held once a week that teaches the Design and Technologies curriculum. Students in senior classes are exploring sustainable living and are currently learning about ways to ‘Reduce, Reuse and Recycle’. Students are currently making a gift bag and plant pot from recycled materials.

Students in the middle school have been using tools to make a product in their Dream Big classes. This week students have been working with Play-Doh to create a boat and car.

Students in the junior school have been exploring real objects such as worms, caterpillars and a variety of flowers and leaves. They have been using Play-Doh to make minibeasts such as worms, butterflies and spiders.

Students participated in a range of engaging library experiences this term that supported literacy, communication and comprehension skills. 

 

Primary students explored stories through sensory storytelling, interactive activities and PODD-supported communication opportunities, helping them respond to texts, share ideas and make connections with characters, events and animals. 

 

Secondary students enjoyed exploring stories about travel, family experiences and humorous characters, using maps, discussion and shared reading activities to build understanding of people, places and experiences while developing engagement with literature.
