WELCOMING CHRIST THROUGH GENEROSITY
In this Sunday's Gospel (Matthew 10:37–42), Jesus speaks to his disciples about the challenges and rewards of following him. He reminds us that being a disciple is not always easy. Choosing to live as Jesus taught means placing God at the centre of our lives and allowing that choice to shape the way we treat others.
While some parts of the Gospel may seem challenging, Jesus concludes with a beautiful message about hospitality and welcome. He tells his disciples that whoever welcomes them welcomes him, and whoever offers even a simple cup of cold water to someone in need will not go unnoticed by God. This Gospel reminds us that small acts of kindness and generosity matter. Every gesture of care, every act of welcome, and every effort to support those who are struggling is a way of welcoming Christ himself.
Over the past few weeks, our school community has lived out this Gospel message through its outstanding support of the St Vincent de Paul Winter Appeal. At Mass last weekend, members of the Mentone Conference of St Vincent de Paul spoke about the growing number of families seeking assistance within our local community. In the past six months alone, 50 new families have reached out for support with accommodation, employment opportunities, and the basic necessities of daily life.
We have been overwhelmed by the generosity of our families, who have donated so willingly to assist those experiencing hardship during the cold winter months. Through these acts of kindness, our students and families have shown that following Jesus means more than simply hearing his words—it means responding with compassion, generosity, and love. By supporting those most in need, we have become living examples of Christ's message, offering hope and dignity to our neighbours at a time when they need it most.
As we reflect on this Sunday's Gospel, may we continue to look for opportunities to welcome Christ in others through compassion, hospitality, and generosity.
"Whoever welcomes you welcomes me." (Matthew 10:40)
END OF TERM
As we come to the end of another busy and rewarding term, we give thanks to God for the many blessings we have shared as a school community. Throughout the semester, we have grown in knowledge, friendship, faith, and service, and we are grateful for the support of our families who journey with us each day.
As the school holidays begin, we pray that God watches over all of our families, keeping them safe and well. May this holiday break be a time of rest, joy, and renewal—a chance to spend quality time with loved ones and to appreciate the many gifts God has given us.
We thank our students for the enthusiasm and kindness they have shown throughout the term and encourage them to continue being the face of Christ in their homes and communities during the holidays. May God bless each of our families with peace, happiness, and good health. We look forward to welcoming our students back in Term 3, refreshed and ready to continue learning, growing, and walking together in faith. Safe travels to those who are heading away, and may God's blessings be with you all.
