Around the Bay Cycling Event

HPSC took on the ‘Around the Bay’ cycling event on Sunday 8th of October. Congratulations to the following students who attended – Halil Furuncu, Sina Javadi, Yahya Mohammadi, Amir Qandai, Sulaman Rahimi, Rehmatullah Rehmatullah and Carrar Yusoy. They cycled 50km from Albert Park Lake to Williamstown over the Westgate Bridge and back!

It was a bright and early start at HPSC before starting the ride at Albert Park Lake. In beautiful sunny weather and perfect conditions for riding, Mr Cram and Ms Raynes led the students to the Westgate Bridge, and up and over to Williamstown where the group took their first rest. We had a quick drink, snack and then continued our ride back over the Westgate Bridge towards Elwood, with a gorgeous view of the water. By the time we reached Elwood, we had a few cramps and sore muscles. Shout out to Yahya, who pushed on through the last bit of the ride with cramps in the legs! Together, we encouraged each other and persisted through the last leg of the ride. We were each handed a medallion to wear with honour when we finished. It was such a great day out, and all involved should be proud of their efforts!

Thank you to Bicycle Network Australia and the school’s ELT team who have supported this event and made this ride possible.

Science Club

Taking part in a science club is a wonderful way for students to engage with science from an early age. It gives them an introduction to scientific methods, helps them to develop a love of science and can give them the confidence to continue studying science further up their education.

At HPSC, Science Club was formed with a focus on providing students an opportunity to actively engage in science inquiry outside their classroom setting. We endeavour to train young people take various responsibilities in our club while educating them on safety aspects of conducting science experiments and future scientific research. Further, this club opens paths for HPSC students to network with scientific community outside the school and increase participation in science competitions, science week activities etc.

Science club activities are designed around various science themes tailored to meet the needs of students from years 7 to 12. Up to the present day, we have conducted a range of interesting science activities including burning methane bubbles, rainbow flames, dry ice demos, screaming jellybeans, DNA extraction from fruit, elephant’s toothpaste, making a homemade acid base indicator, coke mentos geyser, carbon snake, optical illusions, metal plating, making a self-paddle boat, fun with static electricity etc.  Celebration of the National Science Week with a spectacular science show was a key highlight of our club.

Stay tuned to run some exciting new experiments in the coming weeks. Ice cream in a bag, making artificial snow, crystal garden, building electrical and electronic circuits, rocket science, to name a few.
