Drum Theatre Excursion
On Friday the 20th of October, the Year 9s were lucky enough to get to go to the Drum Theatre to watch Candy Bowers’ “Sweet Mama”. The play had an afro-futuristic setting, following the story of Sweet Mama, a superhero who, aided by her futuristic technology, fights off the poison within her mother’s body. This amazing narrative is supported by Candy’s amazing vocals, dance moves, and acting, with Christian Biko’s instrumentals complimenting Bower’s singing. Not only did the play bless our ears, but us students were amazed by the costumes designed by Ntombi Moyo, and the outstanding visual effects, such as the lighting, stage décor, and overall ambience and atmosphere of the whole theatre during the play. Although the play only had one onstage actor, Candy Bowers, it was still able to always keep our students entertained with the introduction of other characters also played by Candy, such as The Pancreas and Glucose. Overall, the play was an amazing experience, with Bowers’ amazing ability to entertain whole year levels with a play with her as the only actor. I’m very sure that her performance will stick in the minds of our Year 9s for all their lifetime.
