Wellbeing Team News

On October 20th the students participating in the MERLE program at HPSC had the opportunity to hear from a guest speaker around their experience of being king hit and the impact it had on their life.

JoJo Amaah  was king hit while playing AFL at his local football club and had his whole world changed. He was hospitalised for months and had to learn how to walk, eat and move all over again. After over a year of rehab and recovery JoJo has been able to regain a sense of normality in his life, he has returned to work and is slowly building his strength and stamina.

The students lucky enough to hear from him were able to understand the importance of staying safe, stopping to think before you act and understanding that a small moment of anger or physical violence can and does a have much greater impact that one realises.

After this session students were treated to a very special lunch provided to use by South East Community Links.

Students in the MERLE group will also have the exciting opportunity to meet with Infinite Fitness from Cranbourne / Mornington, the option to engage in basketball and soccer team building activities, advice and support from respectful relationships organisations and will end with a celebratory session with lunch provided.

We are very grateful for the partnership with South East community links and the opportunities they have provided our students and school this year.

For the last two terms HPSC has been lucky enough to have the support and partnership of Raise. The Raise foundation has been running a mentoring program with a select group of students and term 4 began to mark the end of this group. Raise volunteer mentors took on 10 of our students, supporting them for six months to work on anything the students felt they needed or wanted to. We saw students grow in confidence, become more comfortable in themselves, build leadership skills and unlock abilities they didn’t know as yet!

Our graduation was a celebration of all the hard work from students and volunteers and the impact we have all seen. Students were treated to morning tea, games and certificates to commemorate their hard work.

We are thankful to the Raise foundation team and their ongoing work with our school, we look forward to a new group of mentees and mentors in 2024.
