STATE TRACK & FIELD CHAMPIONSHIPS

It was a mammoth day on the track at Albert Park on Monday the 16th of October. Vermont had a number of individual athletes competing in a range of events, as well as two relay teams. There were some absolutely fantastic results on the day with many PBs being obtained despite the strong headwinds and wild weather conditions. Olympic long jumper Brooke Buschkuehl was fortunate enough to nab a photo with our very own track star Evie!

Special mention to our U13B relay team featuring Cody, Hunter, Ansh & Craig who came into the meet ranked as the team to beat. The boys blitzed the competition, finishing 3 seconds faster than the next best placed team, however, were unfortunately disqualified due to a lane infringement. Despite the disappointment, it is as clear as day that this team will be a force to be reckoned with in years to come with plenty more relays to be run. Well done to the fantastic four, we look forward to seeing what you achieve in 2024.

Finally, to our outgoing year 12 athletes Matt, Maddie and Summer. Well done to all of you for a stellar track & field career at Vermont. Matt’s consistent contribution on the track in distance & middle-distance events and cross country over the years has seen many highlights at both a state and national level. Maddie, the ever-reliable runner always keen to have a go finally achieved the double this year by qualifying for state cross country as well as track & field in the 1500m. Summer, the musician and dancer who somehow had a knack for throwing a javelin. Well done on your commitment to training and refining your technique over the years.

Thank you all for your sensational contribution to athletics at Vermont. You will be missed!

EMR FINALS

Year 7 Boys Table Tennis

Congratulations are in order for our Yr7 Boys Table Tennis Squad who performed admirably in the Regional Finals on Friday 13th October at Kilsyth Sports Centre.

Our Year 7 Boys Team, composed of Alvin and Jayden C, Henry B, Boris E, Jaden Y as well as Jacob W, Jacky Z and Dustan C, gave of their best with wins over three schools. However, Friday 13th proved a lucky day for Balwyn High School as it came down to the wire. Our boys pushed Balwyn to the end with some fantastic and unforgettable shots, but it wasn't to be this year.

Not only did our Year 7 Boys Team shine by their performance, but they also distinguished themselves by their exemplar behaviour and faultless Sportsmanship representing VSC values of Integrity, Respect and Excellence.

A massive well done to all our Year 7 players and to our coach, Josh, whose expertise and skills are invaluable.  A great experience for all involved and we'll be sure to go one better next year!

Coaches Josh Chia and Miss Le Guen

 Year 8 Girls Basketball

On the 20th of October, the year 8 Vermont girls (Ginger S, Ruby T, Aaliyah P, Ava W, Charlotte C, Jayde E, Grace F, Steph O) went to Dandenong to play basketball for regionals.  Unfortunately, the girls lost all of their games but put in amazing effort. They had lots of fun playing against all the other talented teams. The girls hope to be here again next year. Thank you to Ms U and Niamh for taking the girls this far.

Year 8 Boys Basketball

I couldn't be prouder of our Year 8 boys' basketball team for their fantastic journey to the Eastern Metropolitan Regional finals! We've had an incredible season, and it's all thanks to their outstanding teamwork and resilience. Even in the sweltering heat of the basketball stadium, these boys displayed unwavering spirit and never gave up. The other teams may have had some serious height advantage, but I'm confident we'll give them a run for their money next year with our determination. Their enthusiasm this year was truly inspiring, and I can't wait to see many of them back at tryouts next year. Go team! Mr. Pinder

Year 7 Boys Basketball

Towards the end of Term 3 the Year 7 boys’ teams (3 of them) were due to play at Dandenong Basketball Stadium. After 3 hours of deliberating after we arrived, the stadium announced that due to broken pipes, the day would need to be postponed. So back to school we went with some very dejected students.

The day was consequently changed to the last Wednesday of term where all 3 teams played and finished in no uncertain terms, on top! In section 1 our A Team finished on top without a loss and moved on to regionals. In section 2 our B and C teams finished in that order to cap off a successful day.

Regionals were played during week 3 of Term 4. We travelled to where the paperwork said the day was being held, only to discover after being dropped off that competition had been moved. Consequently, we were late arriving, the boys had to go straight on to the court towards the end of the first half, losing only by 1 point to Blackburn. The second game, also close, was a loss by only 4 points to be followed by a win over Ringwood to finish 3rd in the pool.

Each and every one of the players can be proud of their behaviour and of the standard of play they produced. All this was ably directed by their coaches, Archie D, Koby R and Tom D from Year 9, supported by the scorer Liam S.

Year 7 Boys Tennis On the 23rd of October the Year 7 Boys Tennis team set off to Ringwood Central Tennis Club to participate in the EMR and to t to qualify for state finals. The team consisted of Henry B, Jacob W, Vivaan D, Jaden Y, and lead by their team captain, Boris E, and their coach, Ms Nettleship.

The team, filled with excitement, played their way through pool B of the Round robin stage. Vermont SC ended up getting 2nd place in their section, managing to defeat Auburn and Ringwood, but losing Box Hill, who came on top for the day. The team won 14 out of the 18 sets and both Vivaan and Jaden finished as undefeated. Despite, their one lost, the team displayed great enthusiasm, courage and resilience throughout the entire day, and created memories that will never be forgotten.
