VISION 2023

YEAR 7 – 12 VISUAL ART & TECHNOLOGY EXHIBITION

A large gathering of the college community attended the official opening of the ‘Vision 2023’ Art Exhibition on Wednesday 18th of October.

‘Vision’ is a celebration and recognition of the achievements of students in Art, Visual Communication, Design Materials and Technology (including wood, metal, plastics and textiles). The student work on display was of an extremely high standard and showed a broad range of artistic ability.

At this event it was my great pleasure to announce that this year’s winner of the ‘Sarah Bussu Certificate of Excellence’ for 2023 is Niklas Hailes in Year 11.

Niklas has studied the subject of Product Design & Technology this year and has produced two outstanding folios with a very wide range of visual, meticulously planned work.

His folios are extensive with considerable research, written notes, graphics, sketches all centred around the development of his final piece, the bass guitar, on display that evening.

Niklas receives the Sarah Bussu award certificate and $150 in recognition of his outstanding artistic/technological achievements - congratulations Niklas.

I would like to thank all members of the college community who attended the evening to enjoy and appreciate the creative talents of our students. Special thanks to Heather Aeschlimann, the Visual Art and Materials Technology Leader as well as all the Arts, Technology staff involved in setting up such a fantastic exhibition also for all the work on the night.    Well done to everyone involved!

STATE ATHLETICS

State athletics was held on Monday 16th of October at the Melbourne Sports Centres – Lakeside Stadium. Vermont Secondary College had many individuals and relay teams competing on the day and finished 22nd in the state out of 255 schools, a fantastic performance. Well done to all the athletes on your achievements and to Amy Malander, Shaun Gillespie and David Clements for all of their work supporting and coaching the students at the State finals.

For full results of the days competition see the Sports Page of this newsletter.

MELBOURNE CUP DAY – TUESDAY 7TH NOVEMBER

Parents, please note that Monday 6th November (the day before Melbourne Cup Day) will be a normal school day for Years 7, 8 and 9 under DE (Department of Education) guidelines. While years 7 - 9 are expected to attend, past experience indicates that classes are disrupted by the significant number of absences, therefore students in attendance may be in combined classes with a different program.

Years 10, 11 & 12 will have this day as a study day in preparation for exams and for the completion of set work.

We would ask that parents please provide approval for any absences in Compass in advance (before Friday), so that we can plan for Monday.  The canteen will be running a limited menu and lunch orders are recommended.

Project Rockit Digital Resource Portal

Due to the enthusiasm and efforts of our Digital Ambassadors the college has been given access to The Project Rockit Digital Resource Portal until December.

This portal, which is suitable for students, parents, carers and staff, contains 100+ youth-designed evidence-based resources for Year 7 - 9 students to support and facilitate meaningful conversations on issues of relationships, anxiety, online safety, consent, bullying, and more. Searchable by subject, age, and length, teachers can share resources via unique links and integrate the portal into lessons.
