We hope everyone was able to take advantage of the four-day weekend to rest and recharge for the busy remainder of the school year.

A reminder that your child/ren need a wide-brimmed hat for outside play at recess and lunch times. Students also require their hats for Bluearth, Physical Education and Gardening. If you child/ren has a new hat, please make sure it is clearly named.

Stephanie Alexander Kitchen Garden

Since our last newsletter item, both Senior L and Senior J have been busy in the garden and the kitchen. With the warmer spring weather, our garden has been producing more fruit and vegetables which we have been able to harvest and use in our kitchen. Some of the items we have been using harvesting are: leafy greens (spinach, silver beet, kale), celery, rhubarb, mint, broccoli and leek. Over the last 2 week rotation, students made a salad of the imagination with rhubarb dressing as well as a loaded mac ‘n’ cheese containing lots of vegetables. Both dishes proved to be very popular.

If you are available to help in either the kitchen or garden in the coming weeks (Friday’s 11:30am-1:30pm). Please contact either Mr Lester (kitchen), Miss Fleur (garden) or Miss Jay.

Waffles

I sit, spying, recording on my rivals like a stain on a t-shirt.

A bowl of thick liquid is sitting on the bench, giving me a comforting smile.

I know it is time for me to do my job like a human being.

The human splits me open, I don’t feel pain. 

Then the liquid gets poured into my soul.

The human stiches me together again.

I glance at my archrival – the ice cream maker.

It hasn’t been used in eons.

My attention is turned back to the human.

It is now opening me up like a door.

The now solid liquid gets stolen from me, and then the human shuts me down (I don’t know how). 

Grade 6 Memoirs & Graduation – Photo Request

Over the holidays, we ask for your support in helping your child prepare for their Grade 6 Memoir and Graduation projects.

• Please help your child source photos to include in their memoir writing.
• For Graduation, each student will need a baby photo, a toddler/kinder photo, and a current photo.
• Students will also require a photo album to display their memoir at the end of the year.

Thank you for your support in making this a special and memorable experience for our Grade 6 students!

At Home Reading 

We encourage every child to read for at least 20 minutes at home every day. This helps to build fluency, reading skills and strategies that your child is working on in class and also helps to foster a love for reading.
