Parent Updates

Change to our Uniform Policy

This year we have undertaken a review of our School Uniform Policy in line with the Victorian Department of Education’s (DET) Uniform policy review which focused on making school uniforms more affordable and accessible, while maintaining safety and inclusion. This review involved consultation with our School Council. The main changes include phasing out school branded lower-garments (pants and shorts), ensuring uniforms are affordable and the introduction of an optional House Top.

The review also involved the refinement of some of the expectations relating to the wearing of the Sport Uniform and the Out of Uniform procedure.

The revised Uniform Policy is available on Compass in the A-Z in School Documentation.

The revised Uniform Policy will come into effect at the start of the 2026 school year however the expectations relating to the wearing of the Sport Uniform and the Out of Uniform procedure will come into effect at the start of this year’s Transition Program on Monday 24th November.

A summary of the main changes is below.

Non-branded items

  • SCHS pants (grey without logo)
  • SCHS shorts (grey without logo)

House Top

The House top (available in both short and long sleeves for the 2026 school year) is approved by the School Council. The House top is an optional item and can be worn during House events only (House Drama, Chorals, Lunchtime Sport Competitions etc). It is not to be worn during teaching class sessions and can only be worn to and from school on House days such as the Swimming Carnival, Athletics Carnival, SENS Cup and Terry Bennett Cup day.

  • The Sport Uniform is only worn for sporting events or classes involving physical activity (e.g Practical PE or sport based co-curricular classes)
  • Students with practical HPE classes timetabled during sessions 1 and 2 are expected to come to school in their sport uniform and change into their school uniform at the end of the class for the remainder of the day
  • Students with practical HPE classes timetabled during sessions 3 and 4 are expected to attend school in their non sport uniform and change in and out of their sport uniform for their HPE practical class only
  • The sport uniform can be worn all day (including to and from school) only on Co-curricular days if a student is enrolled in an active co-curricular class
  • The Sport Bucket Hat can only be worn outside.

Out of Uniform procedure

If a student is out of uniform with a reasonable excuse parents are to provide a written note. Students will hand this note to their period 1 teacher or Student Coordinator who will make a note on Compass using a Uniform Chronicle entry. Any issues or circumstances resulting in a student requiring a note need to be resolved in a timely manner.

If a student is out of school uniform without a note with a legitimate reason, or otherwise breaches the Uniform policy, the SCHS Out of Uniform Procedure will be followed.  If non-compliance with the uniform policy and expectations becomes a continued occurrence, a Principal will be informed and will be involved in further courses of action. In this event, the school will continue to work with the student and family to support compliance.

We know that students’ behaviour outside of school, particularly online, can sometimes impact the safety of students and staff at school.

In exceptional circumstances, principals of Victorian government schools will be able suspend or expel students for behaviour that occurs outside of school grounds and/or hours including online, if it poses a significant danger to the safety and wellbeing of students or staff.

These powers apply only to serious incidents where there is a clear and close connection to the school and the behaviour of a student outside of school unreasonably impacts the safety and wellbeing of students or staff at school, and their ability to learn or work. Please note:

  • They do not apply to behaviours unrelated to the school or school community.
  • They only apply to behaviour which occurs from Monday 21 July 2025 onwards

Suspension and expulsion will remain measures of last resort – our primary approach continues to focus on proactive and positive behaviour support, including working with you to teach students the behaviours we expect of them, in school and in life.

Thank you for your continued support as we work in partnership to educate and support our young people.

Thank you to everyone who took the time to complete the recent Parent/Guardian/Carer Opinion Survey. The preliminary data is overwhelmingly positive and shows that as a school community, we continue to go from strength to strength.

While this feedback is wonderful to see, we also know that there is always room to grow. To continue improving our communication and collaboration with families, we invite you to share your thoughts using our new Parent Feedback Form.

This form provides an easy way for you to offer suggestions, highlight areas for improvement, or share positive feedback about your experiences at Suzanne Cory High School.

Please note that this form is not intended for questions or urgent matters. If you have a specific query or require a response, we encourage you to contact the relevant staff member directly. If you're unsure who to speak to, please contact the school on (03) 8734 2800 and our staff will be happy to direct you.
