Principal's Report

Kaylene Kubeil

This week, as a Principal Class team, we attended the Whittlesea Schools Network Annual Implementation Planning (AIP) day at Melbourne Polytechnic (Preston).  This day allowed us to review our school data sets and complete our 2026 AIP, which will be presented to the school council later. An AIP is necessary because it provides a clear, strategic roadmap for improvement throughout the school year. It outlines the priority goals, targeted actions, and measures of success that guide teaching, learning, and wellbeing across the school. By providing the Whittlsea School community with a shared direction, the AIP helps ensure consistent, high-quality practice, effective resource use, and transparent monitoring of progress. Ultimately, the AIP supports us in driving continuous school improvement and ensures the school remains focused on actions with the most significant positive impact on student learning and wellbeing outcomes.

We have also seen all our staff busy completing our  WPS Student Profile documentation, which will be a key feature of our 2025-2026 handover.  These will support a smooth transition from their teacher(s) this year to their new teacher(s) next year.  Families play an essential role in helping children transition smoothly from one school year to the next. Talking positively about the new year, acknowledging any worries, and reinforcing familiar routines can help children feel calm and prepared for change. Maintaining friendships over the break or reconnecting with peers also helps children socially and prepares them for the year ahead. When children feel understood, supported, and prepared, they are more likely to begin the year feeling secure, capable, and ready to learn.

As a school community, we’re committed to supporting safe travel habits from the very beginning of primary school. Through the TAC’s Safe Migration Project, we’ll be sharing practical tips and resources with parents and carers to support you and your children to travel safely to and from school - whether by walking, riding, scootering, or driving. We encourage you to take a look at the fun and engaging resources on offer, designed to start important conversations about safe travel to and from school. You can watch the TAC’s Safe Migration video here. And click here to read the fact sheet (available in multiple languages) for easy-to-follow safe travel tips.

Do you have any textiles or wool you would like to donate? This term, our F–2 students are diving into the world of textiles and fibres in Visual Art, and they’re absolutely loving it! Their enthusiasm has been so strong that we’re running low on supplies. If you have any spare fabric, yarn, wool, thread, or other sewing and textile art materials at home, we would be grateful for your donation. (so many Pom Poms!)

Lastly, we have almost finalised our classes and staffing structures for next year, which we will communicate as soon as we can. I would also like to thank everyone for your patience as we have continued to work through our community consultation processes regarding the provision of language at the school, which is now close to finalisation.

Enjoy the weekend,

Kaylene
