Message from the College Principal
G’day everyone,
What an exciting time of the year it is! Headstart has officially begun at the University Campus, with many students joining us from Kurnai College’s junior campuses as well as from other schools. It’s been fantastic to see the buzz around the campus as students settle into their classes - there’s a real sense of enthusiasm for the year ahead.
Headstart will commence at our junior campuses next week, and we’re looking forward to welcoming our new Year 7 students for their upcoming orientation sessions. Planning is also well underway for several end-of-year events, including Activity Days, the whole-school trip to Gumbuya World and of course, our College Awards Ceremony. It’s shaping up to be a busy and rewarding finish to the term.
Thank you for your ongoing support throughout the year. Wishing everyone a safe and enjoyable holiday break!

As we reach the end of another exciting school year, we would like to acknowledge and congratulate all the incredible student athletes who have proudly represented Kurnai College across a wide range of sporting events. Our students have demonstrated commitment, perseverance, and sportsmanship, showcasing the true spirit of our College community.
A special congratulations goes to the teams and individuals who progressed to State-level competition this year, including the Year 7 Baseball team, the Year 7 Girls Volleyball team, Skylah Russell in the 15-year-old girls’ Long Jump, and Sage, Lavinia, and Matilda, who competed in the State Cross Country for the 15-year-old girls' age group. Their outstanding achievements highlight the talent and determination thriving within our school.
We also extend a huge thank you to the dedicated staff who support our athletes—attending events, coaching teams, and running extra lunchtime training sessions. Sporting opportunities play an important role in building resilience, teamwork, and confidence in our students, and we are grateful for the commitment that makes these experiences possible.
Volleyball – State Finals
On Friday 14th November, the Kurnai College Year 7 Girls Volleyball team competed at the 2025 School Sport Victoria State Finals, held at Dandenong Stadium. Facing some of the strongest regional finalists from across Victoria, our girls demonstrated determination, skill, and outstanding team spirit.
In a challenging pool against Maribyrnong College, Keysborough Secondary College, and Kew High School, the team fought hard in every match:
- vs Maribyrnong College: Lost 0-2 (27-40)
- vs Keysborough Secondary College: Lost 0-2 (20-40)
- vs Kew High School: Lost 0-2 (28-40)
While the team didn’t progress to the semi-finals, they gained invaluable experience competing against high-calibre opponents. Throughout the tournament, the girls showcased resilience, teamwork, and sportsmanship—qualities that will serve them well in future competitions.
Beyond the results, the tournament provided a fantastic opportunity for skill development, confidence building, and fostering lasting team connections. A huge congratulations to all players for representing Kurnai College with pride, determination, and enthusiasm on the state stage—an achievement in itself!
Baseball - State Finals
On Wednesday 19 November 2025, the Kurnai College Year 7 baseball team travelled to Cheltenham Baseball Club to compete in the State Baseball Competition. They played three games with the top team from each pool progressing to the final.
The team faced Truganina P–9 College, Norwood Secondary College, and Beaumaris Secondary College and although Kurnai did not record a win on the day, our players remained competitive in every game and demonstrated outstanding sportsmanship.
Students supported one another, embraced new strategies, and learning from team coach, Gregg Duncan. Their teamwork was further strengthened through training sessions with several of our Year 10 students, whose guidance was greatly appreciated.
A special thank you goes to Churchill Baseball Club for generously supporting our students with supplying equipment.
Well done to all students involved. We look forward to seeing the team continue to build upon their skills and strong foundations for future competitions.
