Grade 5 & 6 excursions to the Mornington Park Waste Transfer Station
Over the past 2 weeks, Grade 5 & 6 classes have visited the Mornington Park Waste Transfer Station to learn more about waste, landfill and recycling. The students did a tour of all parts of the transfer station, and asked lots of excellent questions about how the Mornington Waste Transfer Station is reducing the amount of waste going to landfill and its many recycling projects. The students also visited the tip shop and bagged a few bargains!
New worm farms for John Paul II
On Thursday, Nel Smit, from the Tasmanian Youth Climate Leaders Association, visited our school to donate 3 new Wheelie Bin Worm Farms. She worked with students from Prep and Grade 3 to set up these worm farms with compost, soil and off course worms! The children learn lots about worms and worm farms, and were even allowed to hold the worms to check them out. Hopefully, our new worm farms will lead to better gardens at our school.
Springtime in our gardens
Over the past two weeks, students from Prep, Grade 2 & Grade 3 have been busily working in our school gardens.
- We have dug over our gardens and added mulch and manure.
- Yesterday we potted up 102 strawberry plants!
- We have harvested silverbeet, lettuce, broad beans and Kale
Tomatoes Galore
Earlier this year our students helped to grow tomato plants from seed. We have lots of tomato plants ready to plant in our school gardens over the next few weeks, once the weather settles down.
