Discover the Power of Graphic Novels
Our library now boasts a collection of over 640 graphic novels, offering something for every reader. Far from being “just comics,” graphic novels are an excellent way to promote reading. They build comprehension, vocabulary, and a love of storytelling through their engaging mix of words and illustrations. The Baby-Sitters Club series remains a clear favourite, and students are enjoying exploring many other exciting titles in this growing collection.
One standout series is I Survived, based on Lauren Tarshis’s popular novels. These gripping stories bring real historical events to life through the eyes of young characters who show courage and resilience in the face of disaster. The graphic novel format features vivid illustrations that enhance the action and emotion of each story, making them even more powerful, perfect for readers who enjoy fast-paced, true-to-life adventures.
The Hilo series by Judd Winick is another hit, following a fun-loving boy who crash-lands on Earth from another world. With plenty of humor, heart, and action, Hilo celebrates friendship, bravery, and self-discovery all through bright, energetic artwork that keeps readers hooked.
For readers who enjoy something a little more down-to-earth, the Sunny graphic novel series by Jennifer L. Holm offers a warm, heartfelt look at growing up. Set in the 1970s, these stories explore family, friendship, and finding your place in the world, with a perfect balance of honesty and hope.
With its diverse and engaging range of stories, our graphic novel collection offers something for everyone!
Borrowing library books
Each class has a scheduled library lesson on Monday or Friday each week to browse, borrow, and enjoy stories together. Students are also welcome to visit the library during other open times to borrow or return books. Encourage your child to make the most of our library and keep their reading adventures going all week long!
