MATHEMATICS NEWS

A big welcome to the Maths Faculty! We are pleased to introduce Mrs Mel Wright, who joins us to teach 7BLUE and 8RED for the rest of the year.
We'd also like to give a special shout-out to Mr Dunn, Miss Miller, and Mr Perkins for generously teaching Mathematics this term—thank you for your support!
Year 7 has been studying Measurement this term, a topic with essential real-world relevance.
Calculating perimeters (the distance around a 2D shape, including a circle's circumference) is fundamental for tasks like framing a picture, fencing a garden, and measuring land. Finding areas (the surface space of 2D shapes) is vital for jobs like carpeting, painting, and establishing a lawn. Area knowledge also leads directly to figuring out the surface areas of 3D objects like prisms and cylinders. Finally, knowing how to find volumes of 3D objects and the capacities of containers is necessary for calculating the amount of materials (e.g., concrete, soil) needed for building or gardening projects.
To bring these concepts to life, 7RED have been actively investigating and calculating different lengths, areas, and volumes around the school.
Term 4 Mathematics Assessment Tasks
Week 4 – Year 10 (Monday 3/11) and Year 8 (Monday 3/11)
Week 5 – Year 9 (Tuesday 11/11) and Year 7 (Friday 14/11)
Don’t forget that calculators are a requirement for Mathematics, and students are expected to have them for their Assessment tasks – they can be purchased at the front office for $35.
