Year 3 Adventures

On Friday 14th October, our Year 3 and Year 4 students set off to CERES to deepen their understanding of sustainability, linking directly to our Concept Curriculum focus this term.

Throughout the day, students participated in three engaging, hands-on activities:

  • Paper Making: Students learned how recycled paper is created and enjoyed blending and moulding pre-torn paper to make their very own sheets of recycled paper. They decorated their creations with leaves and flower petals before taking them home as a special reminder of the experience. Students were also surprised to discover that paper can even be made from elephant and kangaroo poo!

  • Worms and Minibeasts: In this session, students learned all about worms and composting, discovering how these tiny creatures help break down organic waste and keep soil healthy. They dug through soil to search for worms and other minibeasts and even had the chance to hold a wiggly worm! There were plenty of squeals, giggles, and brave moments as students discovered just how important these little creatures are.
  • Cleaning up the Merri Merri Creek: Students went for a walk along the Merri Merri Creek and helped pick up rubbish, learning how litter can affect the local environment. They also discovered a special drain that one of the CERES team had created to catch rubbish before it reaches the creek, giving them insight into practical ways people can help protect waterways.

Students had an exciting day bringing their learning to life through hands-on sustainability activities, and represented our school with curiosity, enthusiasm and respect!
