Visual Arts

Last week, all students participated in our Amazing Visual Art Day β€” and what an incredible celebration of creativity and colour it was! The school was buzzing with excitement as students rotated through a range of engaging art activities, exploring different materials, techniques, and artistic styles. A huge highlight of the day was the wonderful work of our Student Art Leaders, who showed exceptional leadership and teamwork. They confidently guided classes, demonstrated skills, and supported younger students β€” helping to make the day a truly collaborative and inspiring experience.Β

Β

Foundation to Year 2 students enjoyed rotating through five fun art activities, including:

  • Watercolour spider web paintings
  • Roll and draw character sketches
  • Animal face collages
  • Colour Monster plasticine sculptures
  • Tassel and pom pom creations

Years 3 to 6 students also took part in five exciting art sessions, such as:

  • Watercolour bubble paintings
  • Anime character drawing
  • Origami chatterboxes and boxes
  • Magic clay balloon animals
  • No-sew mini pillows

Β

It was a fantastic day of art, imagination, and collaboration, and we are so proud of all our young artists for their enthusiasm and creativity!

Culture Studies

This week in Culture Studies, students learnt about the meaning and importance of Remembrance Day. They discussed why it is commemorated and explored the significance of the red poppy as a symbol of honour and remembrance. To reflect their learning, students created paper poppies and Remembrance Day artworks, using line, shape, and colour to express respect.

Β

Students also continued learning about German culture, discovering famous landmarks such as Neuschwanstein Castle, the Berlin Wall, the Brandenburg Gate, and Cologne Cathedral, while exploring their history and cultural importance. They learnt about traditional German foods, including pretzels, sausages, Black Forest cake, and apple strudel. In addition, year 1,2 & 5/6 students explored German national symbols, clothing, and celebrations. They learnt that the eagle represents unity, and the German Shepherd is valued for its intelligence, obedience, and loyalty. They discovered that women traditionally wear a Dirndl and men Lederhosen, and explored celebrations such as German Unity Day, Oktoberfest, and Christmas, celebrated on December 24th, with St Nikolaus Day on December 6th.

Students showed great curiosity and enthusiasm as they learnt about Germany’s traditions, food, and culture β€” and enjoyed discovering more about where Miss Anna is from!

PEΒ

Week 5 there was no PE for all students due to the curriculum day and the Melbourne Cup holiday.

The year 56 students had their first Bike Education lesson, which included a class lesson introduction explaining the program and was followed by a bike safety check and maintenance audit.

This is a really important step to make sure the bikes are ready to ride in our program and for when students ride at home, to and from school and in the community.

This week in PE, the years Prep to 2 students completed a tabloid sports activity which included a number of different sport skills, including

  • Catching and throwing different sized balls and equipment eg. Bean bags
  • Dribbling a small basketball
  • Kicking a soccer ball
  • Team work – working with a partner and in small groups
  • Using a roller board, to develop core strength and upper body strength.

VIS Athlete – Be Fit Be Well Presentation

On Friday of week 5, students in years 3-6 were provided with a guest presentation from two VIS athletes.

The first athlete was Dean Hewitt, a Winter Olympian Athlete in Curling. The second athlete Gaby Blewitt was a young lady, 17 year old Taekwondo athlete. They came to talk to the students about their journeys to reach the top of their sports. Dean is currently ranked number 1 in the world in Curling mixed doubles, while Gaby just returned from the world championships taking a bronze medal.

The key message was about resilience, perseverance, healthy mind, body and spirit and eating well. It was a great presentation and the students were highly engaged. Hopefully they all took something from the presentation and can use these ides for their own life and journey to whatever they want to achieve.Β

The winter Olympics are taking place in early 2026. Dean has qualifications in December and hopefully he makes it to the Olympics so we can watch him in action. We wish him well.

All classes have been busy creating their robotic hands. The results have been outstanding. The students have worked very hard. Once completed, everyone has been making Auslan hand signs by themselves or teaming up with a partner to make a letter from the Auslan alphabet. They have all enjoyed the creative process. Well done!

The Aveo & Kingston Green Music Concert 13.11.25

Β

Today we enjoyed a wonderful music concert featuring 44 talented students from Grades 2–6, including members of the choir, band and instrumental program. They performed for the residents at Kingston Green Retirement Village, just across the road. The concert included six ensemble piecesβ€”Imagine If (with Auslan signs),Β This Little Light of Mine (gospel),Β Sansa Kroma (African, accompanied by djembe drums),Β Down Under in Australia, Jyoti Deh (hindi song for Diwali), andΒ Feliz Navidad (Spanish Christmas song) β€”beautifully presented by the choir and band.

Β

We were also delighted by a series of solo and small-group performances showcasing the breadth of musical and creative talent at our school. Ethan (violin and piano), Stella (piano), Nadia (piano), Monique (piano and voice), Rose (piano and voice), Julian (guitar), Austin M (guitar), and Luke (guitar) all performed with confidence and skill. Our concert also included expressive dance items presented by Grace, Nia, Moon and Leah. It was a joyful and heart-warming afternoon shared with our neighbours at Kingston Green.

Β

Participating in a concert like this provides students with invaluable learning experiences that extend far beyond the music itself. By helping set up and pack down equipment, students develop teamwork, leadership, and a sense of responsibility. Performing in an ensemble strengthens their listening skills, cooperation, and ability to work towards a shared goal. Opportunities to performβ€”whether in a group or as a soloistβ€”build self-confidence, self-esteem, and resilience, giving students a chance to express themselves and connect with others through the arts. Events like today’s concert play an important role in nurturing both their musical growth and their social and emotional development.
