SSV Volleyball 2025

SSV Volleyball at the College was a fantastic experience for the Year 7, 8, Intermediate, and Senior students! With so many divisions and teams entered the event had to be held over 2 days at our local SPLASH.  With both boys and girls teams competing in every division. The students' improvement throughout the day is particularly commendable, as it shows a commitment to learning and development in the sport.

Students were engaging in umpiring, scoring, and assisting, this not only enhances their understanding of the game but also fosters teamwork and responsibility.   Umpiring was done by the local South Gippsland Volleyball Club and a big thank you to them.  3 of these were ex-students of local schools who had played SSV Volleyball in the past.

Thank you to all students involved and their coaches, Jenny Damon, Ben Abbott, Patrick McCarthy and Casey Tempest.

Year 10 VET Sports Coaching Students Shine at St Joseph’s Athletics Carnival

On Tuesday, 25th March, our Year 10 VET Sports Coaching students had the fantastic opportunity to assist at the St Joseph’s Wonthaggi Primary School Athletics Carnival. The event was a great success, with MMCRC students playing an active role in supporting and encouraging the young athletes throughout the day.

Our students assisted with a range of track and field events, including the 100m sprint, hurdles, long jump, triple jump, discus, shot put, and the 800m run. They helped with event coordination, provided encouragement to the primary students, and shared their sporting knowledge to help the young competitors perform at their best. Their enthusiasm and professionalism were evident as they cheered on the participants, demonstrated techniques, and ensured the smooth running of each event.

Beyond the technical aspects of sports coaching, this experience allowed our students to develop leadership, teamwork, and communication skills. Engaging with younger students in a supportive and mentoring role was incredibly rewarding, reinforcing the values of sportsmanship and participation.

A huge thank you to St Joseph’s Wonthaggi for inviting us to be part of this special day. We look forward to supporting more sporting events in the future!

Division Athletics

On Monday, we were lucky to have Eleanor Patterson, World Champion and Olympic silver medallist, visit our Division Athletics event. Eleanor, a former MMCRC student, took the time to meet with our athletes and staff.

Our students did well, with several progressing to the Regional level later this year. Special congratulations to Finn Musilli, Finlay Bradley, Beau Glen, and Rachel Denbrok, who were named age-group champions.

We finished in second place overall, a strong result for the College. Thanks to everyone who participated.

Eleanor is in Australia for five weeks to train and compete, and we wish her all the best. Thanks for stopping by, Eleanor!
