Writer in Residence - Tasmanian Poet, Sarah Day

From Monday 7 to Friday 11 April, Tasmanian poet, Sarah Day, will be working with students across Years 7-12.

Sarah will be visiting some Senior School English classes and facilitating workshops with focus groups. Some of these workshops will specifically focus on supporting student writers; both an open invitation to participate, and extension to further develop their poetic craft.

A central theme of Sarah’s workshops will be helping students prepare entries for the 2025 Dorothea Mackellar Poetry Competition, for which the optional theme is “All the beautiful things”. Additionally, students may also consider submitting their poems to the Art2Words Writing Competition, which has a submission deadline of 4.00pm on Friday 11 April.

We trust that the various opportunities Sarah offers will inspire our students, helping them develop a deeper appreciation for poetry as a powerful literary form, and nurturing their poetic talents.

Any queries, please contact Karina Churchill Learning Leader: Senior School English or Nicola Collins: Learning Leader - Middle School

Safe on Socials Parent Presentation

Thank you to all the parents who attended our Parent Information Evening via Zoom lead by Kirra Pendergast. Kirra’s expertise in online safety education and her fank and honest demeanor certainly made this presentation engaging, eye-opening and highly informative. As further formatting of the recording is required before it can be shared, we will make it available to parents in next week’s What’s On across all sections of the School.

The sessions for students in Years 7-9 focused on online safety are happening today, so please continue the conversation at home. As a school, we strongly support Kirra’s recommendations around online safety, particularly the unsuitability of social media platforms and smartphones for students under the age of 16. Kirra’s recent article on ‘Understanding Incels’ linked to the issues raised in the Netflix Series Adolescence is also highly informative, and can be accessed here.
