Principal Report

Dear Parents and Carers,

Dear families,

Welcome back after the term 1 holiday.

I want to start by sharing gratitude for all our parent helpers.

  • The canteen is open Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday. Lauren needs help to keep it going. If every family donated a morning of help, we would be covered all year.
  • Reading with Prep and Grade 1 students has started this term. When Emily and I are participating in tours through the building, it is so nice to be able to showcase this to new parents.
  • Cross Country - thank you to those parents who braved the cold this morning. All participating students will come home with a ribbon. The students who finish in places 1 to 10 will have a placement ribbon. The event is competitive and timed.

WELL DONE TO ALL THE STUDENTS WHO RACED!

  • Election Day is here. Our families will be running the sausage sizzle. Please vote at RHPS (it is pretty quiet) and grab a bite as you go through the turnstiles.
  • Mother's or Special Person's Day is upon us. This doesn't happen without P&F and volunteers helping. On Wednesday the 7th of May, the store will be open for students. There will be a range of items to suit everyone's budget.

This term we have Ruccis Circus Skills happening Monday and Thursday's. The students will run through a range of skills including juggling, hula hoops, devil sticks, plate spinning and acrobatics. The upper students may experience diablo and poi depending on their skills. This will all come together as a production on Thursday the 26th of June, at George Wood Theatre. Ticket details will be shared shortly.

There are lots of exciting student events happening this term:

  • Spotlight Mini and Spotlight are running this term for students in P-2 and G3-6 in both Literacy and Numeracy. We look forward to sharing some of their work.
  • Premier's Reading Challenge has started. Please continue to encourage reading at home.
  • ANZAC day was respected at school with a poem, the last post, and the school captains taking a beautiful wreath to the cenotaph in Lilydale.
  • The Cyber Safety Project incursion was a hit with our students, especially getting to see the star of their videos 'Sam' in real life.
  • We also have a Mad About Science incursion next week for grade 2 students.
  • Grade 34 students will visit Quantum and learn to use Makey Makey devices to code a project.
  • In 2025, Victoria will celebrate Education Week from Monday the 19th of May to Friday the 23rd of May.
  • National Sorry Day will be observed on Monday 26th May. We will be talking to students about its significance to first nations
  • G56 Girls will participate in their AFL day.
  • Prep students will visit the Zoo.
  • Several students will go to district sports for both Athletics and Cross Country.
  • G34 will participate in the Hoop Time competition.
  • And finally, the end of the term we will host a school disco!

The next Curriculum Day will be Wednesday 11th June. Another day great day of math's professional learning for our staff. We appreciate the support.

Working Bee will be held on Saturday 10th May in the morning. A big clean-up for our Prep Info Night would be welcomed from our community.

Enrolments are now open for 2026 for students joining Prep. Please follow the instructions shared through Kinders/Child Care, or on Compass, for siblings wishing to join us next year.

Building work through Jointly. The Victorian Schools Building Authority commissioned Jointly to upgrade the access ramp for the portable. The removal happened last week. A new ramp has been added that is now up to the building code. Next week the rails will be added.

Next term, I will share news about what the P&F funds have helped contribute to in school.

Best wishes,

Craig
