Do you need OSHC for the Pupil Free Day?
We remind families that there is a second Pupil Free Day this term on Friday, June 6 (the Friday before the long weekend). We MAY be able to offer OSHC services for this day, if there is enough interest. Please contact OSHC before next Friday, May 16 to register your interest. Please note that there is also a maximum number of places, and 'first in best dressed'! 🙂
Walk Safely to School Day
On Friday the 16th of May students will have the opportunity to walk to school in groups from four different locations.
- The corner of Gully and Greenhill Roads, Carey Gully at 8.10am with Jaya and Katie.
- The Summertown Church at 8.10am with Kelly, Alex, Emma and two parent helpers.
- The corner of Swamp and Parish Hill Roads at 8.30am with Troy and Sam.
- The bus shelter in the Uraidla main street at 8.30am with Sallie.
Parents are encouraged to walk with the children. Please ensure your child only rides a bike if you are also there to accompany them. In previous years we have found it too difficult to ensure the safety of students riding to school during this event without one-to-one supervision.
In order for the children to enjoy a fruit snack in their classrooms when they arrive, could you please provide a small extra fruit snack for that morning in your child’s lunchbox.
Any late changes will be notified through SeeSaw. Thank you!
Hats
As hats are not required to be worn in term 2, now is a great time to get your child to bring their school hat home for a wash, ready to be worn again in term 3. Please ask your child to bring theirs home... but don't forget to return them ready for wear in Term 3!
Science Supplies
Dear Families,
This term in science, we’ll be exploring the exciting world of chemical science, focusing on solids, liquids, and gases. To make learning even more hands-on, I’m asking for your help! If you have any empty bottles, containers, droppers, ice trays, bottle lids, bowls, plastic cups, pipes, or plumbing materials that you could donate, it would be greatly appreciated.
If you’re unsure about what to donate, feel free to contact me. Thank you so much for your support!
Kind regards,
Jess Rogers
Science Teacher
Resolving issues respectfully
The Department for Education has put together some guidelines for parents when resolving issues at school, particularly regarding student issues. We are so fortunate that overwhelmingly, our school community shows respect to one another. You may like to read the guidelines below in any case, to guide your interactions with the school if you are ever unsure of our processes. Thank you!
Uraidla Primary Facebook Group
If you haven’t already heard about it, there is a FaceBook group for UPS families and we welcome everyone to join (parents/grandparents/carers all welcome). Look for “Uraidla Primary School Families” and answer the 3 simple questions on your connection to the school. This group is a friendly way to find the answers for those questions you may have (e.g. when your child tells you at the last minute its casual day tomorrow, and you can’t remember hearing about it from school!), to get reminders on events coming up, find your lost property!, or a way to connect with other families.
It is not run by the school but is supported by the UPS Governing Council and admin (Jodi Braley) will post information regularly. It is designed to be a group with input from all – so contribute in any way you want to. If you do have a question that you don’t want to post yourself, feel free to forward to Jodi (either by facebook message, email jodi.braley@hotmail.com, or in person at school), who is more than happy to help.
Chess
Did you know that each Thursday during the second lunch playtime there is a Chess Club? Chess is a great game and brings many benefits to children, including
* critical thinking
* concentration
* challenge
* enjoyment
* decision making skills
New players are welcome each week, meeting in Stephen’s class♟️
Enrolment in Reception
If you have a child turning 5 in the next 12 months, they should have already enrolled to start school. Children either start school at the start of the year or in July, depending on their age.
Our school has now reached capacity, which means that we give priority enrolment to children in our catchment area. Please note that younger siblings of existing students are guaranteed enrolment.
If you are speaking to other families about enrolling in school, they can find their local school through the Find My School website: Find a school zone or preschool catchment area (education.sa.gov.au)
Enrolments for mid entry 2025 should already be finalised. With enrolments for start of 2026 due by the end of term 2. Please contact the front office for a registration of interest form today!
