Bike Ed 2025
This year, students in Years Four to Six are involved in Bike Ed every Thursday from Weeks 1 to 6. Way to Go Bike Education is a program funded by the Government of South Australia and is active in 40 to 50 schools per year. Through a successful application process, we have been fortunate to have all students in Years 4 to 6 be a part of the learning.
Way to Go Bike Education aims to help students:
- Learn basic bike handling skills
- Develop traffic awareness to safely negotiate off- and on-road environments
- Get to know the road rules
- Build on their capacity to make safe and responsible decisions as bike riders
For the first three weeks, students participate in lessons on the school grounds to learn basic bike handling skills and build on their decision-making as bike riders. From Week Four onwards, students are taught traffic awareness and road rules as they ride around Uraidla.
As part of the program, the RAA conducts safety checks on all bikes brought to school in the first week. They check all components of students' bikes and make minor repairs if required.
This program is often a highlight for all students who participate; we are fortunate to be taking part again this year.
