Grade 3 and 4

TERM 1
How incredible Term 1 is over already! The Grade 3/4 students have had a great term getting settled back into another school year. They have all worked particularly hard and should be proud of what they have achieved so far this year. In our year level, we have engaged and explored a range of learning experiences and introduced new and exciting things at ACPS. All of these have been fully embraced by our students.
In English we learned and explored various reading strategies; making connections, inferencing, predicting and summarising and exposing students to a range of texts to explore this understanding. We have our class novel - The One and Only Ivan, KidsNews articles, Squiz Kids Podcast, fiction and non-fiction texts and persuasive texts. We have an awesome group of persuasive people. They were able to plan, explain their point of view and publish their persuasive writing piece as well as implement their persuasive skills into advertising. Also this term we explored the features of narrative writing with a focus on our plot mountain making sure we have our characters, setting and plotting our story that builds from a problem to a solution.
In Numeracy we have been exploring all things place value, addition and subtraction and shape. The students used our environment to explore shapes finding as many 2D and 3D shapes as possible and understanding the features of these shapes. The Grade 3's achieved wonderful strides in adding and subtracting 3 digit numbers and beyond and the Grade 4's have developed skills in using efficient strategies to solve a variety of addition and subtraction problems.
Some other highlights throughout Term 1:
Swimming Carnival
NAPLAN
Meditation (especially with Ms Hansen)
Cocurricular Activities
Harmony Day/Colour Run
Student Reflections
We are proud of what we have achieved this term. Here are some posters showing what the students have reflected on from this term.
And sharing something they are grateful for.
Grade 4 Bike Ed
After a term of training, exercising, building our stamina, learning to ride in a group, developing skills in riding on beams and going over jumps we ended the term with the First Annual Great Grade 4 Bike Ride. The students all rode from school along Taroona Ave down to the River. They then road along the path, dodging walkers and dogs, to the bridge and back to the playground. They then had a run around and an icy pole delivered by Mrs M before riding back to school. We were super lucky to have taken part in the program and the Grade 4's would like to thank Mr Smith for running fun sessions. They would also love to thank Jesse for setting up the obstacle course and teaching them how to ride on one wheel! And a big shout out to all the helpers that have supported the program, we could not have done it without you - Duncan, Jesse, Will, Christian, Kim, Jordan, Sarah, Andrea and our grade 6 helpers.
THRIVE Day/Colour Run
Our school had an incredible Thrive Day celebrating Harmony Day, filled with exciting activities that brought everyone together! Students took part in an Amazing Race inspired by our GEM (Gratitude, Empathy, and Mindfulness) practices, working as teams to complete fun challenges. A gelato van and a special lunch order featured delicious foods from different cultures, making the day even more special. To top it all off, the Colour Run filled the school with energy, laughter, and a burst of bright colours, creating unforgettable memories for everyone!
Also this week we had a beautiful meditation with Ms Hansen and shared this with the Grade 2s and 5/6 cohorts. We were treat to 7 of her crystal bowls. Thank you Ms Hansen!
Warrandyte Festival
The Warrandyte Festival was an incredible community, culture, and creativity celebration! The event's highlight was undoubtedly the amazing Treeman Float, which captured everyone’s imagination with its stunning design and vibrant decorations. Watching it glide through the parade, surrounded by music, laughter, and excited cheers, was a truly magical moment. The festival brought people together in the best way possible, filling the day with lots of smiles. PROUD - this is the word that comes to mind with our Grade 3/4 students. A few staff members saw the students in action at the Kids Market on Friday afternoon. Students had put in a lot of effort and their confidence and respect when buying and selling was phenomenal. Also, another proud moment was seeing the students on stage sharing Seussical Jr with the community. Fun was had and everyone was in awe of what has been achieved. What a community!
Parent-Teacher Interviews
Thank you to all parents and carers for Parent Teacher Interviews last week. It was wonderful to catch up with you all and for your ongoing support with our students.
Easter Cupcakes
The Year 3/4 students had a fantastic time decorating their Easter cupcakes! The teachers baked the cupcakes, and the students were creative, adding colourful sprinkles and decorations on top. The classroom was filled with excitement and laughter as they carefully designed their treats. Best of all, they couldn’t wait to taste their delicious homemade creations!
We hope you have a restful break and Happy Easter!
