Warrandyte Festival

What a wonderful time we had at the festival last weekend! The Kid's Market was a big success on Friday evening. On Saturday morning, many of the Prep students joined us for the parade. They enjoyed following ACPS' magnificent float and waving to the people lining the street. They wore their headbands proudly after making them with Mrs Clarke in Art class. There were group hugs as we found each other in the crowd and cheers of excitement as they chased bubbles in the parade.

English

Please find attached a list of the letter names and sounds we have introduced so far:

Maggie Mouse /m/

Sammy Seal /s/

Tommy Tiger /t/

Andy Ant /a/

Poppy Princess /p/

Iggy Insect /i/

It would be great if you could support your child at home by finding words in books that begin with these sounds. Then, if you feel your child is ready, you could look for words that end with these sounds. Perhaps you could ask, where is the /a/ or /i/ sound in the word?

We have also started blending sounds together to make some small words that contain these sounds. For example, mat, sit, sap, tip, am, it, etc.

Maths

In Maths, we have completed a unit on 2D shapes. Students were introduced to the names of some shapes, talked about their attributes and attempted some sorting activities. During our number work on our whiteboards, we also practised drawing shapes. The children used their own bodies to make shapes and created awesome pictures.

What went well this term?

Students were encouraged to reflect on the term and think about the things they have enjoyed and things they have felt proud of. Here are a list of the things that they thought went well:

  • Writing more numbers
  • Learning new letters and sounds
  • Handwriting
  • Making words
  • Doing readers
  • Having fun in Maths
  • Cushion time
  • Tidying up our classroom
  • Listening to the teacher and sitting with our 5 Ls (Looking, Listening, Lips locked, hands in Laps and Legs crossed)
  • Making new friends
  • Having fun with our buddies

Everyone in Prep C has worked very hard this term. I am proud of their efforts and I hope they enjoy a well-earned rest over the school holiday break.
