Last week our Year 9 & 10 'Be a Vet' students at Myuna Farm today, exploring the ins and outs of farm animal diets, digestive systems and getting hands-on with our furry friends. This experience will play an important role in their Term 4 PBL, where students will focus on managing the overall health of an animal.

Students in Unit 3 Biology have been studying DNA manipulation techniques. This week, students undertook an investigation to determine if they could transform bacteria by taking up a recombinant plasmid. The plasmid contained a gene from Aequorea victoria; a bioluminescent jellyfish, as well as an antibiotic-resistant gene. If successful, the green fluorescent protein (GFP) from Aequorea victoria will be expressed in the bacteria, causing them to glow bright green under UV light.
