Week 8

Preps got to see their grass seeds that had grown across the week. They discussed whether the five needs of plants were met and then drew a picture of their seeds. In their second session, they used provided materials to create a paper plate rocking boat.

1/2s continued their focus on dinosaur footprints. Working with a partner, they measured these with informal units (plastic blocks). As part of ‘Relationships and Resilience’, these students focused on working together and problem-solving, by exploring two versions of Tetris – one on the iPads and a paper-based version.

3/4s became botanists for their session. They had to work together to group animals based upon observable features. In their second session, these students also focused on working together and problem-solving with the two different Tetris versions.

5/6s continued with their adaptations work, completing some research about echidnas.

Week 9

Preps revised their learning across the term – the needs of humans, animals and plants. In their second session, one rotation was to work together with a paper version of Tetris and the other was to use wooden blocks to create a tabletop maze for a ping pong ball.

1/2s explored dinosaur teeth. They learnt how sharp teeth are for meat-eating dinosaurs and flat teeth are for plant-eating dinosaurs. As part of ‘Relationships and Resilience’, students started creating marble mazes with straws and A3 paper. It was wonderful to see students working together and assisting each other.

3/4s looked at classes of vertebrates. They had to research each class – mammals, reptiles, fish, birds, amphibians – and write examples of each. In their second session, students worked together to create a tabletop maze for a ping pong ball. They also explored augmented reality on the iPads.

5/6s continued summarised their adaptations work, with the focus being to create a “designed animal” and list its adaptations. Some very creative designs drawn and adaptations listed.
